Internet-usage has become so widespread that it is now an indispensable part of most households and businesses today. This also means that the internet is now an invaluable marketing tool that most businesses will want to make use of. Thanks to advancements in technology and the widespread-usage of the internet, thousands of people worldwide have found invaluable work-at-home opportunities online.
"Advancements in computer technology and the internet have changed the way America works, learns and communicates. The internet has become an integral part of America's economic, political and social life."
- Bill Clinton
Unfortunately, with the rising popularity of work-at-home jobs, the recent years have also seen an increase in work-at-home job scams. This is when so-called "job posters" use "fake" job listings in order to get hold of applicant details, which include both personal and financial information. It's important to be-aware of such scams before you start applying for work-at-home jobs online. Always think twice before you provide any website with any of your details; no matter how "authentic" the website may seem. And remember Ð if the work-at-home job sounds too good to be true; it probably is!
Most legitimate businesses-online will ask for the following information before they employ someone:
If the business doesn't ask for the kind of information mentioned above, be wary of the offer.
Also be careful if an online-business asks for too much information. For instance; some so-called "companies" may ask for;
Do not provide any online-business with any of your details as mentioned above Ð requests for such details are not legitimate.
Ask for references such as other employees and contractors, getting in touch with them will help you find out if the business you are dealing with is a legitimate one.
Find put if the work-at-home job is listed in the "main" job postings.
Ask the right questions Ð especially about how they're planning to pay you for your work-at-home job. Find out if you're going to get a salary or if you're going to get paid on commission. Will you be receiving a cheque or a deposit in your bank account?
Beware of "processing claims" - this is when you will be asked to purchase software and start-up "equipment" for your work-at-home job. Be wary of so-called prospective employers who claim that you have to pay them so that they can get you "started" on your work-at-home job. It's surprising how many people get caught to this all-too-obvious money-making scheme.
There are also a surprising number of websites that claim to provide you with information on "legitimate" work-at-home jobs Ð for a fee of course! Avoid such websites.
Do not trust "get-rich-quick" schemes. If you're offered a high-income for a simple part-time work-at-home job Ð be careful; this is likely to be a scam. Most people get drawn in by such claims. Be-aware; most work-at-home data-entry jobs advertised online have been found to be work-at-home job-scams!
Contact the Better Businesses Bureau (BBB) for information on the company- The Better Businesses Bureau's website will give also give you information on complaints, (if any), in relation to the company. And if you require information on commission actions, contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Don't be discouraged however; there are plenty of ways for you to earn a lucrative income by working in the comfort of your own home. A simple search online will assure you of the fact that thousands of people have found great work-at-home opportunities online. But it's important not to get carried away or cheated by money-making-schemes. Be smart when it comes to choosing your work-at-home job.
