Is MoneySaversDirect a scam or legitimate?

Q:

Can you tell me if this one is a scam: MoneySaversDirect.com.  It is processing returned coupons, filling out forms, etc.  It sounds good, but when I check out the address, it is Mail Boxes Etc. in Hamilton, ON.

A:

moneysaversdirect.com seems to be being operated in conjunction with biggrocersavings.com makes me suspicious.

Also, it appears the sites were created in October of  2006, which doesn't align with the claim to be in business since 1999 - surely they would have had an internet presence before October of 2006.

I don't have much time to look at it further, but i think those facts, with your finding of the PMB (mailboxes etc)
& the fact that they're charging doesn't bear well.

On March 10th I Received an email from Super savers {Money Savers Direct} saying I had won $100 in free groceries in their March drawing and all I had to do was send a stamped self addressed envelope to receive my prize. As they didn't ask for any money I sent the letter the next day. I have heard nothing and my efforts to contact them has proved futile. Has this happened to any one else?

Elaine @ 5:25 pm

Is it just me or is everyone else, who paid the fee to join MoneySaversDirect.com notice you are not able to view the instructional guide, hence may or may not be meeting their specific requirements for reimbursement.

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I sent a self addressed stamped envelope. When trying to send an email to sophia Larson it won't go through saying "user over quota" I think it might be time to visit the Fraud Squad at our local police stations. Something is wrong here.

Yes, I received the same e-mail Oct/07 & have heard absolutely nothing!! Has to be a scam, right??

Well, today I received my SASE back (over 9 months later!) with a card inside that gave me an access code to go http://www.biggrocerysavings.com & pick out my coupons for at least $50 worth of coupons. There were many to choose from & I ended up with 69 coupons. They gave me a confirmation # & told me to send them $5 for sorting & shipping the coupons. Now, this would be ok if I actually GET the coupons, but wondering if I will. Not sure what I'll do. Has anyone "been there & done that"?? Thanks.

Ann @ 5:55 pm

received the same thing today (Aug 14) didn't like the idea of sending $5.00 and decided against it. what i would like to know is how was your envelope addressed? mine had one of those pre-made address labels that I thought only I could get. Now how did this company (person) get MY address label. NOT HAPPY WITH THAT IDEA AT ALL.

I was wandering how to get a phone number for biggrocersavings.com because I recieved my $ 50.00 in Free Groceries post card but the access code is written in pen and I can not pick out the letters and numbers.

I have just sent these acammers a money order to Hamilton Ont for a supposed job processing coupons . Everyone who has had any contact with these people must contact their local Police fraud squad . and contact the fraud squad in Hamilton so they can nail them when they go to collect their mail . Please do this as we must stop them from scamming women and senior citizens out of much needed money .These leeches will continue as long as we let them.
Lets act Now .

Got an email from them about joining. Checked this website before joining. Are they legit ???? Very cautious and wondering if this is a scam. Any info please provide….THANKS

Doug @ 3:15 pm

I joined them last year, paid $34.00 start up fee, sent them thousands of coupon $$$, and felt like I was ripping off my local food store, spent hundreds on postage, received nothing. Started by sending fee to Hamiton Ontario, sent coupons to Nipigon Ontario, sent inquiry to Brantford Ontario, big company you would think? They even have a contact person called Laura Lawson, but this Bitch won't reply to you either. Thinking of staking out there mailbox place in Hamilton, keep an eye on there mailbox number until somebody sticks there key in it and,,, but I am on probation.

Okay, I too sent a self addressed envelope for grocery coupons. Many months later, I cannot remember when I requested them that is how long ago they arrived in the mail. So I go to the website and pick out, something like 34 coupons, they tell you how many you can select from a list of hundreds of items. All was fine until I finished filling out the mailing address and the number they asked me to quote which was on their coupon "$50 in Free Groceries". Like I started to say, all was fine until I submitted my mailing address electronic a message pops up. Just enclose $5.00 and quote the confirmation number I received from the 34 coupon list I requested. Now, they offer free coupons and a self addressed envelope fine and fair. Then they send you instead of coupons a no postage paid postcard with a code number on it and their address so you can mail them $5.00 for FREE coupons. No way. It is a scam. Since when is FREE $5.00 plus 2 times postage cost? Why not ask for a self addressed envelope again but $5.00. No. This is a scam.

Doug @ 12:13 am

Gee, I never got any so called "free" grocery coupons for all my hard work? All they told me was that before they would cut me a cheque, I had to make $50. from the coupons, I think it was 5% of each face value. Lastnight I calculated all the coupons I had sent (from copies of mail in sheet) them and the amount came to $2,366.25 in coupon value. I wish I had kept the reciepts for my postage plus my cab fares as I have Muscular Dystrohy and don't drive. Just for fun I logged into my account with them, yup, still there & still holding true to there promise. They said one time that they would be building a forum site for there members, good thing they didn't cause all they would get from me is words like,,, SCAM SCAM SCAMMERS SCAM SCAM.

Thanks for posting, Doug.

Sorry to hear that happened to you, but I did enjoy your quite musical/poetic ending to your comment.

Just a bit of good news. Not about getting money back, but i was looking into this a bit more today and ran across this legitimate FREE coupon site for Canadians:

Save.ca.

It's interesting to read through some of the site as it's obvious they know about these other rogue sites. For example this is how a real coupon site like Save.ca makes their money:

"The coupons we provide are absolutely free. We even pay the postage. Our revenues are generated through the manufacturers who are charged a nominal fee for coupons printed and mailed on their behalf."

There's a great Canadian forum that has a section dedicated specifically to Save.ca and other Canadian printable coupons at forum.SmartCanucks.ca.

Catherine @ 11:37 pm

Well I guess I'm another poor soul who has been duped by these bastards.
I as well received the card saying I had won free groceries only to be asked for another $5 for them to send them to me.
I never did send it in.
I have only sent 3 parcels to them for around $3,000 in coupons but my time and effort are also worth something.
I also plan on reporting these people because I'm tired of seeing people like me and you being taken advantage of by money grubbers like this. I want to do my part to hopefully prevent others from the same situation it has left us all in.

Doug @ 4:08 am

I dunno, I still think camping out by there mailbox is a good plan. And the contact name that I wrote above as Laura Lawson was incorrect, her name is Sophia Larson, not that it really matters, its probably as phony as the company.

Hey Paul, and on another reply above I have to give you thanks for your compliment on my musical/poetic ending to my letter, I guess I got what they call hidden talent, LOL !!!

KS @ 3:40 am

Thanks god, I am saved from being cheated. After seeing their add, I was almost going to the Bank to make a money order to join, but my friend just searched through the internet, and found hundreds of comments about them. Since I am in Canada, I had never thought that there is even such scams. Is there Police in Canada? Does Canadian Police really care what's going on in this country? I think, thousands have been cheated yet. KS

TW @ 4:40 pm

Thank you all for your comments, I have been searching this company now for an hour trying to find info on them before I send them money to join. I have now made my decision to stay far away from this company (SCAM)

Thanks again

Unfortunately I just realize that i got caught too. I did check one site to see if they are legitimate but then I thought such things do not happen in Canada. So I purchased the money order and sent it out. Can the police check out the account and see who owns this account? Can they trace who is changing these checks and money orders? Here are decent honest citizens trying to earn a living and we are being taken advantage of. I hope they are being caught and made to pay back every cent they robbed. Who can we really report to and be assured that they will take keen interest in catching these thieves and put an end to such criminal acts in Canada?

Thank you all. I think you just saved me $40.00. Glad I looked into this a little better. I've been a year debating on this as a source of extra income/less hours and I almost sent them my money. LOOK INTO THINGS!!!DON'T PUT YOUR MONEY INTO THINGS YOU CAN'T HAVE IMMEDIATELY!!! I went with buy/sell/trade new and used goods and I can't see myself stopping anytime soon. !!!!!BUY LOW, SELL HIGH!!!!!

Lorrie @ 7:45 pm

I have read all the complaints about savers direct, and like most of you, I was also an idiot trying to make a few bucks at home. I am retired, and so of course they don't hire old ladies anymore..so I thought this would be a good opportunity for me. I can't find anywhere to get in touch with the ''scammers"…of course they will keep this well hidden. I guess you're never too old to learn…thanks evryone for your input….I'll know better next time I come across shit like that..
