Stop giving me free information!

Oh boy, I've blown it once again. I sometimes error on the site of getting free information up speedily so that people have access to it with the intent of going in and filling in the caveats and details later.

As anyone who has ever lived on planet earth knows…"later" often means "never".

I just got this question in from a customer and it's making me wonder if I'm doing the right thing at this site:

Q:

According to their own video presentation, ACD Direct REQUIRES payment (to be trained), negating their position as a legitimate employer; in addition, one does NOT become an employee, rather, an independent contractor, as this is a "business opportunity".

Being characterized as an employer is a misrepresentation; please do not endorse this company as being anything other than the "business opportunity" that it is.

Thank you.

A:

Unfortunately, since i run this site as mainly a hobby site with enough affiliate income generated for it to support itself I don't always get to the details I want to. I make most my money selling stuff like luxury pillows and cutlery which is nice because I don't have to B.S. on this site.

I know LittleWhiteEbook did a great job of detailing full-time employers, contractors, business opportunities. I think their book is only $29.95. Maybe I really need to close down the free info on this site and sell it to get the money for more researchers.

Do you think that might be the way to go?

Or I could always make a lot of money scamming people. Scammers are so stupid most the time. I'm sure I could do it better than them. ;-)

I'M JUST KIDDING!

Thanks for the feedback. At least you hit their video first, I guess.

Patrice @ 6:14 am

I really ENJOY receiving your emails regarding work from home opportunities and the reports about which ones are nothing but worthless, total SCAMS and I hope that you'll keep up the good work in reporting the ones that are WORTH checking into as well as the "take your money and run" SCAMS that are out there in Internet land.

I do appreciate finding work from home jobs that do not require any upfront money or "processing fees" in order to start working for them. After all, I am LOOKING for work with an HONEST, REPUTABLE company to be PAID in exchange for HONEST work and performing a GOOD job for that company, NOT having to PAY a company for "letting" me work for THEM! If that were the case, I may as well be paying the company that I currently work fulltime for to LET me work for them and I would have NO income at all, for the 40+ hours per week that I give my services to.

I'm sorry, but I REFUSE to PAY anyone to "LET" me work for them. And that includes startup, upfront fees/costs, AND "processing" fees of any kind just to get started in their program. I am here to exchange my valuable time, efforts and HARD work to MAKE money, NOT to pay someone (particularly SCAMMERS) to "LET" me work for them!

Keep up the GOOD work, Mr. Work At Home…I am GRATEFUL for your website and your articles on LEGIMATE work from home opportunities and the fact that you do your level best to weed out all the SCAMMING so-called "opportunities" that swarm the Internet on a daily basis!

People, ask yourselves this question…do you think it is REALISTIC to actually make $6,000.00, $10,000.00, or even $30,000.00 per month with these SCAMMERS that are asking you to send them "ONLY" $39.95 or $49.95 to get started? Sure, they ALL put up full, one page websites with big, bold print claiming that you can make at LEAST that and MORE. Read all the fine print though. Give them your credit card number just ONCE, just ONCE, for the "startup" or "processing fee" to get started with their program and WHAMMO…guess what???? NOW they have your credit card number and will be billing it MONTHLY and the MOST you're going to get is some stupid downloadable e-book or MAYBE a thin paperback book explaining how you can make "MILLIONS" using their techniques and information that made THEM "millionaires". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. What a Joke. What a bunch o' SCAMS!

Yeah, Mr. Work At Home is definitely on the right track. And, he is HONEST about what he writes on his website.

I APPRECIATE that.

Spyder @ 2:17 pm

As your questioner did, we will find out pretty quick if the site is not legit. However, if you start charging for researched info, those of us who really need it will never get it. It's one more payment for a "maybe" - a payment that could go to gas in the car, heating oil, or food. Just do your best, and keep what information you can coming.
Thanks…

Hank Steinman @ 2:37 pm

You asked for comments regarding this post, so here are my comments. Frankly, I do not see a connection between the question as to whether or not you should send free information, and the separate question about whether or not you should know the details of a program before you recommend it. If you are an affiliate for the program you're recommending, you should know enough about the program to represent it accurately. If you're not an affiliate, or if you don't know much about the program, but you want to call attention to the program because you think you're serving humanity by doing so, I suggest you include in your comments, the fact that you have not had a chance to study the details, but from the little you know about the program, you think it may be worth your subscriber's time for him to research it further.

terry @ 2:52 pm

I want to thank you for your input about work at home. I just haven't found what it is that I need to do. I have checked out your suggestions for the last nine months and nothing has clicked. My time will be limited now because I have chosen to go back over the road in wide loads and heavy haul trucking for a couple more years. I have been checking out the computer graphics, game graphics sites, but it just doesn't fit right now. I'll keep trying and looking…thanks again…terry

Wilma @ 2:54 pm

All this FREE information is great. But they all make it sound like you will be an employee, and all you get is "Pay me to let you work for me" I'm not looking for a business. I'm truly looking for a company that wants people to "Work from Home" I know they exist, but I'm not paying anyone to give me the honor of working for them. That's not the way it works, if I remember right.

DANNY PAVIA @ 4:22 pm

things for free are nice if they have any value to them, however if usually find freebies do still have a price tag-like no customer follow-up and limited use, however in general i find e.books helpfull but most are used to entice you to make a purchase -you only get part of the picture to wet your imagination to buy. Mostly i find products over priced for the same info being rehashed relabled and sold under a new name and scheme. It seems now everybody has the answer or a new one on the hot subject "Law of attraction". These seems to be a 100 different ways to do the same thing all in ebook format or mp3 all ranging in price from free to $250+ for sublineal cds to music dvds. you decide your guess is as good as mine.

Bill Farmer @ 6:06 pm

I am still in search of a home based job, part of the problem is me and my own skeptisism. I need to here that there are safe and legitimate jobs that I may be able to work. Please continue sending the e-mail messages to me they help me with my continued search for the job I need.

Thank you very much.

Suzanne J Arnold @ 7:18 pm

I need to know if these two companies are legal and a good business to work for: MyProvenSystem.com and CarbonCopyToday.com Please let me know

Antonio @ 12:11 am

Very good information.

Jan @ 12:34 am

The information is great, don't stop. I have been scammed out of so much, at this point I am very sceptical of all of the promises. To have some one testing and giving advise maybe more of us can save our hard earned money for the real thing.

vinny @ 5:33 am

Your advice is really great. I have actually looked at some of your ideas that I actually liked. I haven't put any of those plan in actions because I have been very busy working on my own business. But i am really determine to actually execute a couple of your ideas that i liked. Thanks again greatly. Your the best. Great business sense.
Bye now.

DeDe @ 8:21 pm

I appreciate receiving your emails - they are very informative and helpful. PLEASE, keep them going as you have in the past.
I have acquired two legitimate 'work from home' jobs in the last year and a half. Upon first signing up for your awesome website I immediately starting searching for job opportunites. Within a month I was hired with a company as a self-contractor which means that I take care of paying my own taxes. I didn't have to give any money to them in order to work for them either and I am still working part-time for them.
I searched your website again right before this past Thanksgiving holiday in hopes of finding seasonal work to bring in extra money for the major holiday seasons and again, in less than a month's time, I started working for another legitimate company in which I didn't have to pay a fee for.
Your site in my opinion is legit, informative and successful. I also appreciated the fact that you stated that there would be some job opportunities that required start up fees and that your research on these prospects didn't reveal any scamming, etc. and that the fact of their start up fee requests were legit due to the cost to them, sending applicants their customized computer programs, paperwork, research on applicants work and criminal history, etc; as it does take people and their time and other costs to complete the hiring process.
BUT, one of the best features you offer is the opportunity to protect one's money by offering 'clickbank' site when a person does decide to give money for these start up fees. This site protects one's money up to 6 months. You also stated that even though you do your best to research these companies offering 'work at home' job opportunites that there could be some that pass the test but may not be as legit as they presumed to be during initital research and you even requested that if this was the case, then that person who finds a company like this should notify you so they can be taken off the site, reported to proper authorities etc; and, if this finding happened before the 6 month deadline with 'clickbank' (which by that time one would know if they'd been scammed) than money for start up fee will be refunded.

NOW, if the people complaining about this website would have read everthing printed on this site which explains and covers it all, they would have never started their complaints to begin with. This is a very safe, informative and successful site along with being free to us, the consumers, who want to make a honest living working from the comfort of their own home but also do not have extra money to give out and who appreciate people like Mr.WorkAtHome who care about others.

Keep up the great work, Mr. WorkAtHome - I, for one, (and am very sure many, many others) am very grateful for your website and your articles on legitimate work from home opportunities and the fact that you do your level best to weed out all the job opportunities that scam people daily.

I agree with the person named 'spyder', who sent in the following comment: 'if you start charging for researched info, those of us who really need it will never get it. It's one more payment for a "maybe" - a payment that could go to gas in the car, heating oil, or food. Just do your best, and keep what information you can coming.'

I APPRECIATE MR.WORKATHOME!!!

Thanks for the thoughtful posts everyone.

It's giving me quite a few ideas about how to make some improvements here.

DeDe, I should point out that the clickbank refund period is 60 days - not 6 months.

Also, for anyone else, you can find the clickbank refund instructions here:

admin @ 6:10 am

Here's a comment I got by email that I thought I should include:

Paul,

I haven't been on your site in ages due to lack of time and, nothing personal, also lack of interest. Having been a freebie seeker at one time, due to severe lack of funds, as well as hating getting ripped off, I understand where people are coming from, to a degree.

In fact, I may be one that expected more from your site, but that's not the point here. If you are sure to tell people that this is a hobby of yours well up front, and that the information may be incomplete, or due to subversion out there, inaccurate from time to time, this issue shouldn't snowball on you.

It's just an observation as I am really not qualified to advise you. Hope it turns out alright.

Robert

Melissa @ 5:03 am

Wow - I can't believe the response to this post. Many of the employers in our Homeshoring Ebook, including Alpine Access, do not charge any fees. Each entry has as much information as possible and we've even had many of the companies verify their entries. Yes, ClickBank refunds are available. If anyone is not satisfied with the ebook, they can choose to get a refund. All of the listings indicate whether you will be an independent contractor or a full-blown employee. We worked really hard on giving our readers access in as many ways as possible so they could make their own decision on it - including BBB Reports and newspaper articles…

We've been swamped in emails from people with questions from people and obviously I need to get to them. (LWEbook is actually not our main business…) If anyone is dissatisfied, just get your money back. The introduction of the ebook - available free - also mentions the fact that many employers hire independent contractors.

I see you're a little swamped, too - I need to get you that stuff in your email !

admin @ 5:16 am

Hey Melissa.

Nice to see you here. Been nice to see how the takeup of Little White eBook has progressed.

I figured you guys were swamped.

DeDe @ 6:59 pm

Hi Paul and other members,
I apologize for the error I printed regarding the amount of time that clickbank holds funds as the clickbank refund period is 60 days - not 6 months.
And again, I want to reiterate that if people would just take the time to read all the information on this site they would realize that the information may be somewhat inaccurate from time to time as there are not one of us out there that can be 100% correct 100% of the time. There are 1,000's of companies out there offering these positions and each posted company's entry has as much information as possible for a person to make a responsible decision as to whether or not they will apply for the offered position or not.
Also, if you are a concerned person, you can easily research the company you are interested in yourself, starting with the BBB.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK PAUL!!!

Is carboncopytoday.com a scam. There website is somewhat convincing and the price is a tolerable loss if it turns out to be a scam.

Lynda @ 10:19 am

I very much appreciate receiving your emails; I know I can stop them at any time, but I have actually gone ahead and bought in to one of your recent offers.

As always, BUYER BEWARE. The problem is you will always have new people who, like eBay, have not yet learnt how to distinguish the rubbish from the good stuff. A site like yours will be helpful.

I think Patrice's comment is valid - add a preamble to say if you haven't checked out a programme (that's the UK spelling BTW), and perhaps ask for comments from people who have.

My problem is I don't always remember from whom I received the link in order to give feedback.

All the best though. I really appreciate your site.

For anyone looking for work at home, and not have to pay anything, I currently work for Alpine Access, this is a very good job and you are an employee and recieve pay every 2 weeks. Also the training is great, so I truly recommend them. A second option is West, west hires as contract work, however I do have friends who work for them and they have great pay w/ steady income and you also pay nothing. Hope this informaton helps.

Hi there,

I agree with Patrice who says above:

"I'm sorry, but I REFUSE to PAY anyone to "LET" me work for them. And that includes startup, upfront fees/costs, AND "processing" fees of any kind just to get started in their program. I am here to exchange my valuable time, efforts and HARD work to MAKE money, NOT to pay someone (particularly SCAMMERS) to "LET" me work for them!"

I am rather new to receiving your emails and links, but thus far have not seen anything even close to what I hope to find.

cheers,gayle

gayle @ 11:39 am

For anyone considering applying to Alpine Access for work at home job, read this first from those who were "employees"…

admin @ 7:05 pm

Thanks for the link Gayle. It's good to be able to give people whatever feedback is available and that seems objective enough feedback and the person is willing to admit that maybe they're jaded, but I think it's a good read none-the-less.

You have a point about the WorkAtHomeTruth newsletter actually. What I should have done and will do at some point when I have more time is let people select what type of information they want. It is a bit nuts that we are sending home business information to people looking for telecommuting work.

And really if you're looking for free daily postings, you're probably better off at the sites we have listed at Work from home companies and IveTriedThat.com.

By the way did you know that most telecommuting experts such as Sylvie Charrier who actually is the one who made the phrase "never pay for a job" famous actually do do sometimes recommend paid databases for certain people.

Now, if you're shrewd, quick, and follow the Rules there couild be several advantages of searching on your own not the least of which is your particular search techniques might turn up positions that aren't find by the trained searchers that are used in membership sites like HomeJobStop

MerrC @ 1:41 am

I think it is great that someone is trying to filter out all of the dishonest at home job offers and especially those that are so too good to be true. I have been searching on many websites to find at least one that is a job that I can do from home, work for them ( not start my own business), not have to pay them anything and make a reasonably good wage doing so. I have a diability that prevents me from working outside the home now and I just cannot find anything that "fits". I do appreciate your website and what you are trying to do,but I have not had any luck or stumbled upon one of the REAL work at home and make a living, without a scam, job. I will still keep checking your information out. I believe there is something out there for me and others like me. Things are so tight right now I couldn't even afford any start up fee or postage and handling for a cd, nor do I think I should have to pay a dime to work for someone. They should be paying me even while I am in training. Thanks for all you do.

I am interested to know if Carbon Copy Today is a legit business opportunity or another scam where you pay money and get nothing or very little in return. I have been there and done that enough times, but need something I can do from my computer as being an R.N. working on in a hospital has become too difficult. Hope to hear from you. Jo V.

If it's an Aussie 2-Up as this discussion claims", I'd recommend you stay away.

You can read about Aussie 2Ups here.

On the other hand, Mike Dillard's book Magnetic Prospecting was very good. There have been similar ideas in the past, but he went into much more detail.
