Brighten Communications - treating people right

We were recently talking to Debra Turner who does the telecommuting product reviews for WorkAtHomeTruth and she mentioned one of the best telecomuting positions she's ever had was working for Brighten Communictions.

Since Debra has the knack to braindump great information quickly, so we asked her to do a quick braindump about her experience with Brighten Communictations.

Here's what she said:

"They let people post in the forums when they are hiring, and they hire in all continental states (not sure about Hawaii or Alaska).

You can choose to work as little as 4 hours per week, all the way up to 40.

It's all B2B calling, but you can usually choose the time zone you will be calling.

They start you off at $10/hour for your first 20 hours with them, which they consider to be a training/probationary period. Then, as soon as you have put in your first 20, they immediately raise you to $12/hour — you don't ask, they just start paying you that rate. And after a month or so, I received another $1/hour surprise raise!

They provide very comprehensive training, which is very easy and doesn't take but a couple of hours to feel comfortable with if you have experience doing this sort of thing.

They never, ever pester you or "stand over you" — they expect for you to be professional and do your job correctly.

If you have questions, all you have to do is shoot them a quick email. They will either email you right back, or reach you by phone. However, almost any questions you may have are answered in the training materials that they provide.

They pay weekly, and do not hold back a week.

I always received my check on Saturdays. After a month or so with them, you can go onto direct deposit, which they recommend because they don't want any checks getting lost or held up in the mail. They want you PAID.

Each assignment you receive is different — I received insurance agencies and real estate / business properties for sale, mostly. But you receive adequate briefing and company info with each assignment, so it's basically just always doing the same thing — calling the business listings they provide you with, and setting appts for the client to get in there so they can pitch their product in person or by phone.

I can't say enough about them — they are head and shoulders superior to ANY company I have EVER worked for, all things considered."

If you want to find a big list of companies similar to Brighten Communication you may want to check out Debra's review of The Little White eBook of Homeshoring Jobs.

If you are completely new to telecommuting, Debra highly recommends the book InYourPJs which you can read about here.

Has anyone recently been laid off by Brighten Communications due to the Economic Turmoil and clients cancelling their services?

Mary Jaszcz @ 1:22 am

Yes I was laid off from Brighten Communications this week. The last 2 weeks were awful. New operations people that nitpicked everything you did. And nothing but negative emails. I am quite upset about being "laid off".

Mary Jaszcz @ 1:24 am

Don't count on getting hired any time soon. Brighten has been laying people off for 3 weeks now. Every week due to "economic turmoil.

Wow I know I did my best with the company(got emails from my initial team leader to back it up) and did not turn in all the hours I actually worked. The Lead Reporting team did nitpick every little detail, very negative and unprofessional. I had some really good leads for the client that were deleted. I wonder if anyone every followed up…too bad for the potential customer. Is the company in trouble? And does anyone out there know of similar jobs? They paid really well and I was able to do this in my dial-up world.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Rachel @ 1:12 pm

Mary,

I laughed so hard when I got the email being laid off. I was hired, promoted, got a good raise and had just started direct deposit all in 3 weeks. Maybe they'll call us back who knows. I feel sorry for the ones that are still there and have no job security. I've moved forward. There's more out there, you just gotta look.

Good Luck and stay Positive

Man. This discussion started in February of 2008.

Needless to say, things have certainly changed since then!

Is this the way it's going to be working from home? Going from job to job? I want a stable company with just a tad bit of job security. I've always commited to at least a year in a job even if I am unhappy, that way I feel I've given back to the employer what they've given me and not waisted they're time or mine.
