We were recently talking to Debra Turner who does the telecommuting product reviews for WorkAtHomeTruth and she mentioned one of the best telecomuting positions she’s ever had was working for Brighten Communictions.
Since Debra has the knack to braindump great information quickly, so we asked her to do a quick braindump about her experience with Brighten Communictations.
Here’s what she said:
"They let people post in the forums when they are hiring, and they hire in all continental states (not sure about Hawaii or Alaska).
You can choose to work as little as 4 hours per week, all the way up to 40.
It’s all B2B calling, but you can usually choose the time zone you will be calling.
They start you off at $10/hour for your first 20 hours with them, which they consider to be a training/probationary period. Then, as soon as you have put in your first 20, they immediately raise you to $12/hour — you don’t ask, they just start paying you that rate. And after a month or so, I received another $1/hour surprise raise!
They provide very comprehensive training, which is very easy and doesn’t take but a couple of hours to feel comfortable with if you have experience doing this sort of thing.
They never, ever pester you or "stand over you" — they expect for you to be professional and do your job correctly.
If you have questions, all you have to do is shoot them a quick email. They will either email you right back, or reach you by phone. However, almost any questions you may have are answered in the training materials that they provide.
They pay weekly, and do not hold back a week.
I always received my check on Saturdays. After a month or so with them, you can go onto direct deposit, which they recommend because they don’t want any checks getting lost or held up in the mail. They want you PAID.
Each assignment you receive is different — I received insurance agencies and real estate / business properties for sale, mostly. But you receive adequate briefing and company info with each assignment, so it’s basically just always doing the same thing — calling the business listings they provide you with, and setting appts for the client to get in there so they can pitch their product in person or by phone.
I can’t say enough about them — they are head and shoulders superior to ANY company I have EVER worked for, all things considered."
If you want to find a big list of companies similar to Brighten Communication you may want to check out Debra’s review of The Little White eBook of Homeshoring Jobs.
If you are completely new to telecommuting, Debra highly recommends the book InYourPJs which you can read about here.

I was needing a response with my application. Would let me know if you received my recording of the scripts and how I am doing.
Thank You,
Sarah Ray
I have completed the script recording process and checking to see how soon I will be contacted.
[WORDPRESS HASHCASH] The poster sent us ’0 which is not a hashcash value.
Hey, great.
Let us know how it goes and what you’re experience is with Brighten.
Paul
Hello,
I have completed the voice recording and Im just wondering how long it may take to move forward. Thanks.

Has anyone recently been laid off by Brighten Communications due to the Economic Turmoil and clients cancelling their services?
Yes I was laid off from Brighten Communications this week. The last 2 weeks were awful. New operations people that nitpicked everything you did. And nothing but negative emails. I am quite upset about being “laid off”.
Don’t count on getting hired any time soon. Brighten has been laying people off for 3 weeks now. Every week due to “economic turmoil.
Thanks for keeping us updated about your experience with Brighten Communications Mary.
Wow I know I did my best with the company(got emails from my initial team leader to back it up) and did not turn in all the hours I actually worked. The Lead Reporting team did nitpick every little detail, very negative and unprofessional. I had some really good leads for the client that were deleted. I wonder if anyone every followed up…too bad for the potential customer. Is the company in trouble? And does anyone out there know of similar jobs? They paid really well and I was able to do this in my dial-up world.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Mary,
I laughed so hard when I got the email being laid off. I was hired, promoted, got a good raise and had just started direct deposit all in 3 weeks. Maybe they’ll call us back who knows. I feel sorry for the ones that are still there and have no job security. I’ve moved forward. There’s more out there, you just gotta look.
Good Luck and stay Positive
Rachel
Man. This discussion started in February of 2008.
Needless to say, things have certainly changed since then!
Is this the way it’s going to be working from home? Going from job to job? I want a stable company with just a tad bit of job security. I’ve always commited to at least a year in a job even if I am unhappy, that way I feel I’ve given back to the employer what they’ve given me and not waisted they’re time or mine.
They will drop you without even an advanced notice. Say it is poor quality of leads or feedback from their clients. You never know until you have no lists in your file-then get an email that says you are not needed. I have heard this from 2 other people.
Well they just laid me off saying that I had poor quality leads and feedback from clients was not good. They never once sent me any correction notice or information regarding my work ability until there was no lists in my file.
Well they just laid me off saying that I had poor quality leads and feedback from clients was not good. They never once sent me any correction notice or information regarding my work ability until there was no lists in my file. I did my very best as well and this morning get an email saying you did not perform according to their standards. Never once did they send me email with bad vibes. Onward upward-I am working on some other campaigns.
You are right, they just lay you off saying it is due to poor performance but all during that time you never get emails with regards to this. All of a sudden there are no lists in your file. I have many others that I am working on.
Hi, I just finished the voice recording yesterday and i am waiting to hear what’s next! I have been doing this work for 3 yrs plus so i know i can do it i hope i last!
I was thinking about going back to work for them this month but they are obviously not a dependable company if you want job security. Just have a back up plan in case you get the boot once you get to $12.00/hr. People are expendable right now and they know it. Im with a company right now that really treats you right and respects you and above all is HONEST with you. Once you find that you’ll be ok, until then keep looking.
BTW I’ve been doing this work for 25 Years. Just have fun no matter what you do and be HAPPY!
Can you share the name of the company where you are now happy? (or is that a no-no??)
Thanks and wish you the best.
USe to work for Brighten, Been working for a company in Denver called Qualified Marketing com for 5 months now good consistent work and pay.
@Susan: Susan, are you still with Qualified Marketing? And if so, how is it going?
Yes, I am. The work is stready and they are pretty easy to work for. Its a good fit for me right now. Need the money, doesnt seem like there is much out there in the way of work for us stay at home moms.
Lisa,
Can provide the contact person for Qualified Marketing. I’ve tried to get started working for them from home and had not had any luck. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon
I did not have a positive experience with Brighten. The “managers” are unclear and unprofessional. I sent repeated emails asking questions, only to be ignored or told she didnt get the email. I worked a 4 hour project and did not get paid. I told them I would not work for free, and terminated the relationship. 5 minutes later, they sent ME a termination letter!!!
Hmm. I just noticed in one of the comments that apparently new operations people came in since the original post referencing Debra’s experience with Brighten Communications.
It certainly isn’t sounding like the company she described anymore.
I was told to check back after the Holidays then was actually told by a really nice HR person who initially trained me that since I worked last year for them I would not be able to work for them this year. Weird, but I think they are doing cattle calls for new employees once you get to $12.00/hr. I would like to go back but I feel it’s not dependable. There are more out there just keep searching if you like this work.
Sorry it was great, very professional and expandable, however he could not get another contract. Not sure what is going on with the company now. Will let you know if i hear anymore.
Thanks for the update, Rachel.
@Paul (Founder, WorkAtHomeTruth):
Hi I to the owner of this company work at home truth, I am trying very hard to find professionals to work from home for my company, I am a bit different than this company because I dont pay as much in the beginning because I have been scammed to death on people laying on the hourly, I pay per week during training not by the hour. also if they answer the phones I will pay a minimum of $300.00 to $700.00 per week, Now my service is different because, I offer inbound sales calls for the professionals of people already interested in the product or service I am selling, I was wondering if you any suggestions to how I can not be in that circle of scam companies, I am trying very hard but, all I get is no experience callers that want to wast my advertisers money by not answering the phones and making up excuses why they couldn’t answer the phone, but at the end of the week they feel they deserve money, and will threaten call you a scam if you don’t pay and having a A+ rating with the bbb,for years with my other companies, I just don’t want to take that chance, so what would you suggest if any suggestions you may have for me, sign good company with bad sales people. This is a new business venture for me.
@Dee: Dee, unfortunately most people have a huge misunderstanding of the BBB rating system and the kind of pressure they put on companies to join. I’ve covered this a lot.
There is some value to the BBB when looking at patterns of complaints, but I tell people to take the actual ratings with a grain of salt.
As to your other question most of the companies I see completely discourage phone calls, so it would come down to filtering resumes and checking previous employers.
You can start to get some ideas of the rules around that here:
http://www.business.gov/business-law/employment/hiring/pre-employment.html
I initially learned a lot from the woman who runs 2Work-At_home.com and think that she would be a great person to pose your question to.
Dee I am currently working in a call center enviroment. I am looking for a part time. If you are interested please contact me.
thanks,
crystal

@Dee: Dee, I asked a friend about this who had some great ideas – but he wasn’t 100% sure what you do.
Are you a direct provider of the services – or are you a contracted provided for another inbound sales firm.
Also, what state do you operate out of?

Ebone
Would like to join, please email me more info how to do this job.
I’m looking into other options. Will keep u posted.
I currently work for Brighten. I’ve been there for 14 months. Honestly, I am still really enjoying the job. I think sometimes that there is a lack of communication, but the most important thing is to let them know if you’re having trouble with leads. I’m making $13 an hour for them.
Honestly, I think a lot of people posting here didn’t read their contracts thorougly. Brighten says in there that they can terminate your employment at any time. As a contractor, you take this risk. The only reason you DON’T get paid is if you don’t submit any leads on a project.
I worked for brighten for 5 weeks and got a promotion in 1 week to 12.00 an hour and had submitted 25 good quality leads and 8 phone appointments on a 16 hours shift and still i was told lack of leads….The hr manger for brigthen told me as long as you have leads on every project which i did would be secure and guess that wasn’t good enough. I am exploring other options and hoping I get my final pay check from them next week =)
Wow, that sounds just like Rachel’s experiences with Brighten Communications she posted above.
Have you heard anything yet
Your Welcome Paul.
I worked for Brighten this year, 2010. I worked my first project of 4 hours and got the leads I was told I needed to get. First off, I didn’t get this project assigned to me until Wednesday. They said I had to complete the 5 pages of dialing by Friday at noon. Well, I still did that. I tried to sign in on Monday for a new project and it said unauthorized. I emailed my team leader multiple times. She finally responded back with management felt you didn’t have that many dials. The required or average dials was 45-50, I always dialed at least that per hour. To top it all off, no paycheck yet and no returning my emails about it either. Dont work for them. I think they are just looking for people to work their small projects because they know there are enough of us out there and then they aren’t paying you!
Well they just offered me an opportunity that sounds like one of a lifetime. This blog is disheartening to say the least
@They Just Hired Me: I’m a bit surprised at how the discussion progressed as well.
I would love if you could update us on your experience. Maybe they’ve turned it around again.
Can you informed me how it is to work for Brighten.
Brighten is currently a great company. They are not laying off but at the same time you don’t want to hurry your calls either. Its a great company!
