Liberty League hit with class action lawsuit

While researching information about another company, I noticed that Liberty League was hit by a class action lawsuit. I found the information at MLMWatchDog dated 8/11/2008.

Hallaluah! I hope that this class action lawsuit results in putting LLI out of business permanently. I was involved in LLI for a year! What an absolute waste of time and a lot of money invested on my part. LLI is a SCAM, case-closed. Unfortunately, I fell for their b.s. motto which they instill into all associates that if one invests his/her time diligently into their business it will result in that person eventually attaining wealth and “financial freedom”. That is their ultimate lie! I did everything under the sun, (as taught by my advisor – who was eventually kicked out of LLI for violating their rules) in order to generate my own leads. It was nothing but frustration, multiplied a thousand-fold! I was taught that it involved only several hours of work, on my part to run my business. Such pure, basic garbage. I spent hour, after frustrating hour, day after day, marketing myself in every which way imaginable. I even resorted to buying leads from vendors, as I was told that this was a good way to get my business off of the ground. LLI even had their own approved lead vendor. These were “supposed” people researched by LLI who had expressed an interest in finding out info. on owning a home-based business. Another lie as judged by the disconnected phone numbers, wrong numbers, fictitious people, etc. when one prospected these leads in an attempt to find serious-minded business-seeking individuals.
I attended one of their Liberty conferences in Hawaii in the fall of 2006. With airfare, and the price of the 3 day conference, it cost me close to $4,000. At the conference, I got to know about 8 people, conversing with them in detail, sharing ideas, inquiring how we were doing in our LLI business. Of these only ONE person could be considered enjoying modest success as an associate. Unfortunately a lot of the money that he was able to bring into his business, was off-set by his marketing budget attempting to attract leads. Of the other 7 associates, NONE OF THEM HAD EVEN MADE ONE SALE IN THEIR BUSINESS!
LLI’s Beyond Freedom course which I bought to the tune of $1,525 does absolutely NOTHING in educating you as to how to run a successful home business.
I am glad that a group of people are going after LLI and their founders. I hope, through the final verdict rendered that the LLI defendants named lose millions in the court’s decision. There are many honest people, like myself who, unwisely, brought into the LIE that is Liberty League International.

Jeff said, “LLI’s Beyond Freedom course which I bought to the tune of $1,525 does absolutely NOTHING in educating you as to how to run a successful home business.”

REPLY: Uh…I hate to tell you this, Jeff but the Beyond Freedom course you purchased was NEVER intended to teach you how to run a home business.

Beyond Freedom is a personal development course. Not a marketing course.

As for Liberty League’s viability…..I’ll simply say that I saw all these same criticisms back in 2005 when I first heard about Liberty League. I decided to “see for myself” instead of relying on the whinings of people like Jeff….

…and it looked like something I could do. Very straight-forward. No hype.

So I got started and followed the system. I made $15,000.00 in my first 30 days….and hit over $40,000 per month by the end of the year.

Liberty League isn’t for everyone. But it sure is for me!

  3. Me Too says:

Thanks for sharing Jeff. Unfortunately I lost money through LLI too and wish I could be part of a class action.

Whilst the person I joined with was a ‘nice person’ she wasn’t Beyond Freedom qualified at the time I joined. So I got my Advisor by default and he was rude and arrogant.

You would think someone who had thousands of dollars of your money would care. I hate to think how he treated complete strangers.

The problem with LLIers is a lot of them, not all, treat people like they’re inferior if A. They’re not in LLI and B. Aren’t earning tons of money.

Personal development isn’t about arrogance and having money, it’s about becoming a better person. Wish I just started out with Tony Robbins material because what he teaches has changes so many peoples’ lives for the better.

Not only is the quality a thousand times better than LLI products, but it’s value for money and also he offers a money back guarantee for Mastery University, which is multiple events for about 20k, and if you’re not satisfied when you attend an event, you can get your money back.

If the founders of LLI were confident in their products then they would offer at least partial refunds if people are unhappy.

You will notice as has happened here that the minute anyone says anything about LLI that doesn’t indicate it’s perfect, LLIers attack which is very sad to see. They personally attack the people who are simply stating their opinion or experience.

People who have lost money through misinformation deserve to have their money back and deserve to be heard. For any LLIer who plans to write back and say ‘you’re just cut cos you failed’ keep it to yourself.

You’re successful if you’re a good person and you learn from your experiences. I’m not the only one who learned to stay away from this company.

  4. Help says:

Could someone please tell me how I can join this class action and get my money back.

  5. anon says:

Good luck getting your money back. I too spent two years trying to make this biz work. The only thing I gained was a lot of debt. Wish I would have seen the reports on scam dot com before I joined.

  6. Scammed says:

I would be interested for LLI to give us some statistics about how many people actually make money in this business. Yes, there are some high money-earners, but mostly what I saw was a bunch of people just like me who were really hoping that something would turn around soon. I dedicated so much of my time, money and effort to this. I learned a valuable lesson, but it sure cost a lot of money.

Don’t kid yourself Tony. Your fortune doesn’t come without a price. Taking advantage of other people is not a way to make a legacy for yourself and isn’t a way to make a difference in this world. I think you know very well that other people have sacrificed so that you could make your money. It’s a good thing for the top money-earners that the Beyond Freedom materials are so basic and superficial that they don’t teach people about integrity. Otherwise, those big money makers would have left the business long ago.

I hope the class action lawsuit is successful so more people don’t have to go through what so many of us have.

  7. Anonymous says:

This guy admitted in the fourm that he forged documents in order to get confrence tickets. Looks like Mr. Rush or someone else deleted his comment. If you click on the link to his about me page, he does state that he forged income documents and told the bank he wanted a nose job.

  8. I can't believe says:

…..how people cannot take responsibility for their own lives and failures plus successes. The blame I see here for everything outside of themselves is so unbelievable. I suggest that more of the ones who have the need to criticize, blame and put down pick up some self development books, (there’s tons of them out there) and take a serious look at yourselves and what has happened in your life. Take responsibility ….. TOTAL responsibility and see your life take off no matter what business or opportunity you pick up. I wish you all the success and prosperity in your lives… and yes I’m sincere about that and I KNOW Tony Rush is also sincere about that too.

  9. jeff says:

Good friends of our joined LLI, and under the surface they are not happy. They’ve been in for 6 months, have spent 15k on advertising and conferences and have yet to sell one LLI membership. The pressure is mounting to turn the corner, but they aren’t making much headway. They are working the program diligently, but the product LLI offers is simply not a viable sustainable business. Being a successful business owner myself, I understand the value of providing customers a return on service and product. LLI simply does not offer value or ROI. My friends know this, but their pride is keeping them involved. Eventually, they will run out of money, and that will force them to leave LLI.

  10. You know the more I read this the more I’m baffled that people will spend so much money on something apparently not aware of the potential downside or amount of work involved, yet completely ignore completely reasonable, low-risk, low-cost, systematic plans like the one I laid out in a post called:

    BootStrapping Your Business.

Is there some sort of belief that you can’t build a successful business without spending a lot of money up front?

Yes, there are definitely expenses in running a business, and I’ve spent a lot of money on my business OVER TIME when it was reasonable to do so, but to just keep throwing money at a business out of hope seems bizarre to me.

My motto has always been to fail as fast as possible to find the winners.

Or sometimes the type of business just isn’t the right match for your personality, but it works for other people who are more suited to it, such as Tony Rush here.

  11. Brainwashed says:

Easy to tell when an LLIer jumps up to defend the company. Amazing how these so-called personal development junkies all think and talk the same.

    Whatever happened to individuality?

Am sorry more people have been scammed. Would be great to have a worldwide class action to get our money back.

People are right, there’s nothing noble about taking advantage of people. Don’t you love the ‘no sales’ pitch, which is absolute bollocks. It is big time sales, so misleading and very very sad.

  12. Hmm says:

Funny how an LLIer is searching the forums to find negative stuff about LLI hey?

  13. L says:

Me too! They should be taken to court…It was criminal in what has happened and the pressure they applied mentally, like if you dont do it now you will be a loser in life! I have always wanted to file but, didnt know if i was the only one! I would be committed to getting justice against these MLM scammers…It’s a con no matter how u look at it…please reply back with info as I am serious about persuing…either joining a class action or starting one myself..thx

  14. M says:

I would have loved to take them to court, but too late. Yes, they make you feel like a piece of crap if you don’t “do what ever it takes” to buy all 3 products. Every single associate will tell you if you are “serious about your success”, you will buy all the products.

  15. Joe says:

To all of the people who put LLI down on this form, I feel pity for you. If you knew anything about personal development you wouldn’t bother wasting your time downing such a great company. Just like Beyond Freedom teaches, you become what you focus on. Obviously it’s clear to me and anyone who knows something about personal development that most of you definitely focus on the negative side of everything. No wonder your LLI business didn’t take off. I joined LLI a month ago, got qualified and made $6,000! now how is that possible! let me tell you how thats possible, well first I knew where I was going, second I knew without a doubt I would succeed, third I believed in the product and started using it the day I got it, fourth I listened and took the advice of the top earners in the company, fifth took action! So to all who claimed to of failed with LLI, think back and look at how you ran your business, and what kind of mindset you had. That will give you all of the answers your looking for. Hope you all find what your looking for…

  16. Eric says:

Shotgun Marketing is something a lot of people do when beginning, and it is basically throwing your money at something people you don’t understand.

Doing things a little better and a little faster than every other “Joe” out there is not how businesses are built, but rather how lemmings die. This is why the success rate in MLM is so small. Fortunately Liberty League is all about being an individual and building your personal worth and brand. You will get who you are not what you want.

I saw postings like this, and ripoffreport.com, I realized it was all from people who failed and want to belly ache.

It’s one thing to cut your losses and move on and it’s another to hang out in places like this…
    Do your due diligence.
Look at the bottom of Liberty League’s home page for an income disclosure. You will notice that just like any other business or industry the 80/20 rule is at play, but a whopping 10% earn about $109,000 or more. That is a pretty outrageous success rate if you ask me.

Usually people who do not make it in this industry are perpetuating ideas that “People who are making money are building their business on the backs of those who are struggling and failing below them.”

If you are seriously considering joining LLI go ahead and check out this post http://www.squidoo.com/Liberty-League-International-2

PS. I bought all the products up front, and laid out a pretty penny on advertising. I made my first 2 sales in my first 3 months. I made nothing for another 8 months…
    In month 13 I made $14,000.

    I did not quit.

  17. L says:

I gave LL about 9 months before asking myself how the business was really working for me. I was fully qualified, had made 2 more sales and was on my way to making more with my 2 associates purchasing their conference tickets. But, I had bigger questions tugging at me, such as the questionable marketing techniques taught which seemed a bit obnoxious; i.e., deceptive advertising, posting signs on corners near shopping areas, which in most cities is against ordinance. And, I saw friends failing, friends that I had met in LL, and those that I enrolled too. It was disheartening, and I wondered how good/great I would feel if I achieved financial success at the failings of many? After all, the statistics showed that less than 8% made a six-figure income, and this is not a net figure, does not include advertising, conferences, travel expenses, which can add up very quickly. I could not continue knowing this, it just did not resonate. This is just my perspective, and I have learned from my experience, a bit painful at times, but valuable just the same.

  18. matt lloyd says:

I can totally relate to a lot of the frustrations that these people have with not being able to get results…. I started my own home business with another company, LifePath Unlimited back in 2008. And for the first month or so, it just sucked in the money… I spent 1000′s of $$$ on google Adwords. I got really pissed off with the business, thinking that it was no where near as easy as I thought it would be. I started to blame eveyrone but myself.

But something in me didn’t want to give up. I couldn’t stand the thought of losing my money, and becoming just another statistic in the long line of people who fail in this industry. So I started taking my business a little more seriously…I bought marketing courses, I went to seminars, I read tons of books. I became a sponge for marketing knowlege, since marketing is the foundation of any successful Direct Sales business, whether its Liberty league, LifePath, global resorts, or Carbon Copy Pro.

finally, I got my first sale, and i gotta tell you it felt good. Once I had that first sale, I knew I could get another, and less than a week later, I did. And soon I was building up quite a substantial team.

The thing I learned from this business is that you will only fail if you give up. there is no other way. I completely understand when people become frustrated with their home business, and this then leads to them scaring prospects off, since the prospects can sense that you’re not successful. It creats a vicous cycle, where the longer you go without getting results, the harder you find it to stay positive aobut your business.

If anyone out there is struggling, or thinking about giving up, then just do yourself a favour and learn how to market.

I offer my team a training centre, that teaches them from the ground up how to market online. You can go there now, and get a 7 Day Free Trial…. it’s at http://www.HomeBusinessBuilders.com.au/trainingcentre

I’m not trying to sell you anything, or to get you to join my team….I’m too busy as it is to be a very good mentor anyway. I just want to offer those who are struggling some good advice, since I know what it’s like to struggle, and to be on the verge of giving up. Have faith that your business will work, map out the things you need to learn and do to become successful, and most importantly, take Massive action towards acheiving your business goals

i dont know if this site is relevant anymore, but i was thinking of joining a new company known as Polaris Media Group – then i did some research and discovered that it is technically, Liberty League Int renamed… Still the same founders as far as i know – I know Shane Krider is still the face of the company. I always do my homework when something sounds shady – and this DEFINATLEY sounds shady… very vague, and the associate i initially contacted, couldnt really give me much information without ‘consulting’ his superior i.e Rachel Oliver – one particular member of Liberty League whos made ‘millions’. The suss part occured to me after i found a few more of these sites by associates, and they all seemed to have the exact same story – they all made it BIG in the first month, they all came from a prior MLM job (funny that) and the details are always very scarce… I also found the court case report http://www.courthousenews.com/2008/07/31/Liberty%20League.pdf and the methods they used to suck in potential customers/associates are all sounding way too familiar. I am so glad i have half a brain and trusted my gut instinct and did some research before leaping into the unknown. Has anyone else heard of Polaris Media Group?? or is just in Australia at the moment. http://www.polarismediagroup.com

  20. DDD says:

I cannot say much positively about this business.
It was a pressure sell for me. It was coming up to the Super Charged Saturday (SCS) 2008 in Sydney Australia, my up-line was not qualified so I spoke with her Summit adviser, the same one who did the 3 way call. He stressed it was important, even though I had only just joined, to position myself to become qualified at all 3 levels by purchasing all 3 products before the rush after Super Charges Saturday. My wife and I choked on the money but the sell was convincing. We put up the $25K for all products, even though we had not received the BF pack yet.
Well we were qualified immediately after the SCS so all was looking positive, then we received the BF pack, what a disappointment… We asked for support from the advisor, and her advisor and the summit advisor on using the BF pack and how to interpret some of the course. We got nowhere on actually using the self development course. How frustrating was that, I was asking simple questions that no one was trained on because all the training was on selling, nothing on the course. I did not get any response from the LLI corporate email address on my questions either. Our business did not flourish either, much the same as many of the posts above, spend on advertising in many forms, “throw enough mud and some will stick” mentality. My mind was screaming this is not efficient, this is not clever, this is manipulation. I couldn’t sell the product because it had failed for me and my conscience said I was out of integrity to sell this to anyone else. I stopped.

Now if someone in LLI had taken time to work with me/us on the BF course so we could become products of the product then my perspective and experience might have been different, and I hoped it would be. I was after a life changing experience and something I could put my heart behind, something life changing I could share with others.

I see Shane Krider has launched PMG, is this a legal separation from LLI? I see Brent Payne has ‘lost everything’ and is now marketing Avant, and putting everything he has into it. hmmmmm…. I just received the promo email from a cold call address I have never heard of.

    Buyer beware!!

  21. anonymous says:

Don’t do it, get a real job and actually provide for yourself and society as opposed to “selling air” which is exactly what LLI does.
