GoogleTree complaints

Update 4/29/2009 – On April 24, 2009 the Texas Attorney General filed charges against the owners of Google Money Tree for operating a fraudulent Work-At-Home Scheme:

"AUSTIN – Attorney General Greg Abbott today charged two Utah-based defendants with operating a fraudulent work-at-home scheme. The state’s enforcement action names Infusion Media Inc. and Jonathan D. Eborn, whose “GoogleMoneyTree.com” promised six-figure earnings for conducting specialized Google and Yahoo Internet searches

According to investigators, the defendants promised big payouts in order to convince Web users to spend $3.88 on shipping and handling for a “free kit” that supposedly would show them how to make money from home. Those who purchased the kit were later surprised to discover they were being charged $72 a month by the defendants."

"According to the state’s enforcement action, GoogleMoneyTree failed to clearly inform purchasers that they had been enrolled in monthly memberships and had only seven days to cancel their trial membership. Purchasers who failed to cancel within seven days were automatically charged $72 on their credit card statements each month. In addition to the unexpected credit card charges, customer complaints obtained by state investigators indicate that GoogleMoneyTree failed to actually send the “free kit” and refused to honor customer refunds.

The state is seeking an injunction, civil penalties of up to $20,000 per violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, as well as restitution for purchasers. Texans who believe they have been misled by similar business practices may file complaints with the Office of the Attorney General toll-free at (800) 252-8011 or file complaints online at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov."

Update 2/6/2009: Since this was originally posted Google Money Tree  has made significant improvements (in my opinion) to their sales process.

If you are going to post a comment – and are able to do so – please post the original date that you ordered Google Money Tree as it would be interesting – and could be helpful – to match those dates up with the version of the Google Money Tree sales page that was current at the time.

Note: This is NOT an endorsement of Google Money Tree, but an acknowledgement of improvements (again, in my opinion) that were made.

End 2/6/2009 update.

After reading a bunch of complaints about a product called GoogleTree it dawned on me that the actual product the people were talking about is a product called GoogleMoneyTree which we've been having a discussion about here – including many people offering tips on how to try to get back the money and stop the monthly charges.

Based on the intial $3.88 charge and then the surprise $72.21/month, the similar name and similar complaints it has to be the same product.

Apparently the charges are showing up as one of the following:

  • GoogleTree1, GoogleTree 1, Google Tree 1
  • GoogleTree2, GoogleTree 2, Google Tree 2
  • GoogleTree3, GoogleTree 3, Google Tree 3
  • GoogleTree4, GoogleTree 4, Google Tree 4
  • GoogleTree5, GoogleTree 5, Google Tree 5
  • GoogleTree6, GoogleTree 6, Google Tree 6
  • Mc-Google Tree, 2Mc-Google Tree
  • Mony Tree.com

Yes I put in for the work at home googletree1 and they took 3.88 off of my visa card, and when I called back to cancel within 3 days and get my money back that they said they would refund back if cancelled within 30 days, which is posted on the website, they said that they cannot refund the money and would not let me talk to a supervisor. Now if this is what you are going to do then I will turn google in for false advertising.

When I called the third party customer service line, I actually got to speak with someone nice – though he wasn't able to help me.

He said I had to write to the company to try to get my money back. It is the same charges as above. If anyone is interested, the address is below:

Google Money Tree
2375 E Tropicana Ave, Suite 8
Las Vegas, NV 89119

Hope this helps not only me, but others out there too.

To Paul, this looks like a great site. I think I will check here before I try other sponsor offers on freebie sites. Thanks.

I got scammed same as everyone else here. I already work at home, just interested in bringing home a few more bucks. What's worse, and why I tried to cancel right away, is there is little good info on the site. It wasn't worth 3 dollars to me, why would I pay 72? Thanks Amanda for the address, and thanks Paul for the site. :)

I wish I had whomever right here right now. Hay guys I can emphasize with you and if anybody knows a good newspaper to give them unwanted publicity. Does anyone know any good names to drop or just write? How close to being fraud or something else that they can be turned in for? I am going to call the Missouri States Attorneys office tomorrow. Don't know if it will do any good but I have to do something. Is that enough venting?

I had sign up with different sites to dosurveys to try to bring in extra money to help my family. I started to sign up for the google tree but realized that it was not part of the survey process and was going to cost initially $3.88 and possibly as usual more in the future. I cancelled my subscription. Today 1-19-09 $72.21 suddenly appeared on my bank account. This should not have even appeared because the trial 3.88 never did.

Same track and fraud in transactions. Contacted bank and filled out complaint forms.
Sad to say, just recently retired after being done in by Circuit City's actions.
Looking for way to add a few quid to SSI but got bit by this bunk scam. Bank said federal chrages would be filed and they would try getting funds back, but would not guarantee that fact.
TIA for the address and other needed information.
Probably need to contact the casino they are renting the suite from and ask them to shut the scam down, that is unless they are the people doing it! LOL.

I am a VERY stupid PhD. I really thought that $3.88 was a reasonable price to find some work that could be accomplished from a home computer. I did not intend to pay $72.21 per month for the rest of my life (as was stated by a company official). I noticed a particular vein question in so many preceeding comments, "How do we get our money refunded?"

I don't about you guys, but they keep calling me from a 201 area code and all I did was enter my e-mail, and address I never went along with paying the 3.88 but now they call me like hungry vultures! I already told off one of the representatives and rudely he hung up, another called being polite and again I told them I was no longer interested. Apparently they don't get the idea..

To my utter surprise my bank was able to return the $72.21 to my account. Required destroying the credit card that was initially used and having the bank issue me a new one, also filing with the bank that I had not entered into any kind of agreement with the stated company to allow them to deduct any monies from my account. The bank agreed that I did owe them the initial $3.88 since that is what is shown on the originating web site.

Well! Thank God for diligence and persistence of the employees of Charter One Bank Corporation

during the entire foregoing discussion the name GOOGLE precedes the name of the offending web site.

I was attracted to the site by the Google name and feel that it is misleading the public at large and drawing them into this trap.

Considering the number of victims so far, I think the FBI should be informed.

I am fortunate that I read the complaints on this site first and avoided falling into the same trap; for this I am oblidged.

Hi,

I got scammed too. Actually talked to a guy last month prior to the 4th, he assured me it was cancelled and no more $72.21 pmts would come out, and I could not believe it when I looked at my bank statement today and saw another pmt taken out. Fortunately I had changed my debit card to a new one, so they cant take out any more. I am filing a dispute with my bank to get this money back, and I am contacting the better business bureau. Thx Douglas

1/06/2009. I guess I'm one out of alot of people that have gotten screwed by this google tree company. I signed up for the one cd and got nothing for my money. First they took the $3.38, and then they took the $72.21, and it took a couple of weeks for the $72.21 to show up on my credit card. Little did I know…but…this $72.21 was suppose to come out of my credit card every month. On 3/10/2009 I finally got to talk to one one the third party representatives, and had them cancel my account. This company makes a big deal out of buying the first cd, but says nothing about being billed for the rest of your life for something you do not get. Why the Better Business Bureau does nothing about this company…I don't know.

Thank you Jerry

Same story here. I actually canceled my membership about three weeks ago. Today, the $72 charge is pending on my DB card. I have since misplaced the phone number to customer service. Does anyone have it?

The number is 1-866-870-4257
My problem is that they never even sent me the CD. They told me to contact the United States Post Office, which I did. They have no record that it was sent and Googlemoney tree will not refund any of my money without me sending the CD back (THAT I NEVER RECEIVED). I am currantly filing withmy bank, the BBB, the Federal Trade Commission, and the FBI. Good luck to all.

The number is 1-866-870-4257. I am also filing with my bank, the Nevada BBB, Las Vegas BBB, The Indiana BBB, the Indiana States Attorney, the Federal Trade Bureau, and the FBI. I have made numerous attempts with Googlemoneytree to no avail. They said they will not refund my money without me returning the stupid CD (which they never sent me).

Contact the financial institute you used to set up your GMT account. Tell them that you have been scammed. They will want you to fill out appropiate paperwork detailing your envolvement and the actions of GMT. Be very specific that you did not in any manner authorize GMT to take any funds out of your account, that the only agreement you made was to initially pay the small $ amount advertised on their web site. Probably around $3.00 or $4.00 US. Ask the finaicial institute to stop any additional financial transfers from your personal account to GMT and ask them to try an recoup the funds already fraudently taken by GMT. There are no guarentees that they are going to be able to get your monies back.
In my personal case a bank credit card was used, the bank recovered the monies and canceled the credit card, reissuing me another credit card with a different number.
File with the Better Business Bureau in your specific area and with your State of residence. Also read the posts, there are other options open to you other than dialing a non-existant toll free number. File the paperwork, submit your claims, and be patient>>this may take a month or longer to get resolved. Need be cancel your credit card and contact the corporation you have it through to assure no other transactions are processed by GMT. Good Luck!

First off Google Tree is in no way affiliated with Google. google tree customer service is based in draper utah at a company named platinum teleperformance 405 e 12450 S. they do customer service for a number of these scams that are all the same, just use different websites. The employees are trained to not give any refunds even when a refund is do. Only way to get a refund is to return the disc that is sent, but most of the time you are lucky if they even send one out. As for not being able to talk to the supervisors, they don't exist. They have "managers" but they are nothing more than the person sitting next to them on the floor.

I already post the same things everywhere people are enraged about Google. Now I do not care if It was Google or not, because anyone seeing this Ads, with the google Mark and everything will think is google. It is google for me and i do not care, Google as a Corporation should have already deleted all these ads if it wasn't their. And The payment was made to google chest treasury, and im not retarded. Google took $ 72.21 dollars on my account 10 days after i purchased that stupid kit online. I just wanted to know what it was all about, from being tired of looking at it from facebook to myspace. On top of that, Google signed me up for some website that will deduct $ 36.77 dollars after the free trial. Ok! What free trial? I don’t recall doing any of that. Im a college student, and money is very valuable to me even if i only have about $ 400. I WANT MY $ 72.21 BACK. That is some BS, if they don’t,since i told them straight i want my money back, 9 days ago, and the girl said i will. Somebody Lawsuit google already, so we can all have out money back. Money that i need to keep me alive. F**** Google.
