Another fake news site? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Are fake news sites the next big thing? If the alarming number of fake news sites with fake stories about fake blogs are any indication – the answer is a resounding yes! Most of the fake news sites talk about a fictitious woman named “Mary Steadman” who claims “I get paid about $25 for every link I post on Google and I get paid every week… I make around $5500 a month right now”.
One thing that the fake news sites DO get right is that “Mary’s story is a very familiar one in these tough times”. That’s true since there are over 1000 fake blogs perpetuating the myth that you can make big money “just by posting a link on google”.

Some of the fake news sites do post disclaimers like “This publication is an article advertisement for Google Profit Kits”, “This publication is an article advertisement for Easy Google Profit”, or “This publication is an article advertisement for Google Biz Kit” (I noticed that many of those are now redirecting to a product called CashSecretClub).
But one of the stranger things about these fake news sites is that they have an “ADVERTISMENTS” section ON the advertisement itself and to my eye the word “ADVERTISEMENTS” on the right is quite a bit bigger than the advertising disclaimer on the top (note, not all sites have the disclaimer).
I haven’t determine how many of the fake news sites are similar to the actual newspapers in that area. If anyone lives in one of the area that the following fake news sites claim to be from it would be interesting to know if they sound like a newspaper in your area. I clicked on a link that someone left on Facebook and it was to a financial journal in my area. I wanted to call the “Maria” but didn’t find her in the phone book. Searched the financial journal on google and there was nothing….then while really looking at the article found that the little picture for the “poster”, Chris, was the same photo as one of the people that left a comment, named Stephen. Like other posters here, I received a link after looking for work on Craig’s List. My degree is in Journalism, and when reading the fake news story, and the way it was pushing the Google kits it felt completely suspect. I tried accessing the story through the “newspaper” directly and got a pop up box asking if I really wanted to navigate away from this page without signing up for the Google kit. News stories don’t do that, advertisements do. Curious, I did more research and ended up here. (Thank you Paul, btw!)
What I am even more concerned about however, are the multiple responses from my work inquiries on Craig’s list that ask me for all of my info; such as name, address and phone number. Thinking they are legitimate postings about jobs in my area (this is my first online job hunt), I am responding to the initial post on Craig’s List with my resume, which includes the very info they are requesting (Name address, phone). I am of course NOT responding their “response email” asking me directly for these things, but I know that I’ve already sent the info if they care to look at my resume! Yikes! I’ve since created a resume that includes just my name and email address, but I’m so concerned about what I have already sent out. It didn’t seem out of the ordinary to send a standard resume with this info. Does anyone know what kind of damage they can do with just my name, address, and phone number?
It’s so disheartening that scammers are willing to do this to others!

Having a resume with just your name and email address is a good idea. A lot of telecommuting experts go so far as to only using your first name initially.

I also joined in on googleprofits.com scam I had to cancel my credit card and fight with ispeedway which is the link I was connected to and charged $1.88 non refundable which I’m trying to also trying to cancel. I’ve been scammed. Is there anything legitimate out there.
I was amused by all of the personal statements on these fake websites and all I could see is that the same person wrote all of them. There was no individuality at all in these so called personal comments of success.
I’m amused that some many people actually believed that you can make $25 posting links on the internet. Do you think MacDonald employees would stand on greasy floors, inhaling stale oil fumes, sweating 8-10 hrs a day for $7.30 an hour if they could be sitting at home in a comfy chair and make 4 times that with one click of a mouse? I understand that times are hard but we should working harder, not less to make ends meet. I notice that a lot of the victims were women. I guess it’s because they stay home to look after the kids and need additional income. I would sympathize but these are things you need to consider before having kids, not after.
Nothing is for sure and sometimes fathers lose good jobs. This sometimes happens AFTER the kids are already here you dumb shit. Grow a brain. They did consider income BEFORE having a kid but INCOMES CHANGE. Please go kill yourself.
er, so you’re basically saying that what they should consider *before* having kids is to um, not have them? When would you propose they should have kids then? Never? No one should ever have kids because only a rare few are actually making a real income in America. OK, good conclusion. The middle class is shrinking, people, due to forces we have no control over….don’t blame people for wanting to have kids, something we *do* have control over.
I’m sorry for no compassion from me. It’s not like they were playing with hardworking, decent folks. They’ve emailed to tell me that they want the number so they could call the department store to see if it’s valid. I’ve already spoken to the store and they’ve told me to never give the number to anyone. If someone has the number they can use it to shop on their online store.

I was curious albeit a bit suspect, so I clicked on it. I arrived at the same Google scam page you are describing… & wanted to believe that one could make money this way… but something told me to Google the name of the website along with the word “scam” and I arrived here.
I found it very ironic that here I was doing my best to warn craigslisters about the scammers (actually two) who had tried to rip me off… and right away I receive an email via my posting with a link to another type of scam. Yikes! What is this world coming to…?

A member of my forums let me know of an issue. She had trouble posting here (said she couldn’t see a captcha) so I am posting it for her. She wanted you to know of 2 more sites she came across related to one fake news site advertising the Google Check “opportunity” (read: SCAM) that were not listed on your site at the time she read it.

They both look the same and tell you you can make lots of money like the stay at home mother in the pic (faked) who happens to be in your city (also faked using Geo location) and says it expires tomorrow (also faked. Always says tomorrow. It is a script just like the Geo Location thing).
In fine print at the bottom of those sites I came across it says it is not affiliated with Google yet it says on that site that it is making money and getting paid by Google. Also in fine print it says you have to pay a fee of $69.95 (doesn’t say what currency).
What can people do about fake sites like this that seem soooo real??
WHY doesn’t the internet DO SOMETHING about these scams on the internet. I’ve found that 95 % of the jobs on the internet are scams, and in these trying times when everyone is looking for work, we are instead applying on the internet to useless things, and such a waste of time. Can’t someone get these scams off of here. They are nothing but a JOKE.
