Wow. Right. I actually hadn't recognized the full significance of the MoneyGram case until you mentioned this.

I am surprised about the use of print advertising precisely because of the problem you state: hard to test conversions before spending 30k.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the FTC go after some middle men in this scheme, like they did in the Money Gram case.

Michael,

I believe it's at least the first time they were in a full-page advertisement in the big bizop magazines - which would be Home Business Magazine and Small Business Opportunities.

I haven't checked to see if any advertisements were also run in some of the other bigger ones such as True Wealth, Home Business Connection, Opportunity World, and Simply Home Business.

I would also be interested in knowing if smaller classified advertisements were taken out first to test the magazines or if they just went full-out and bought advertising without testing the media at all.

Certainly based on my estimates of what many of these affiliates are likely making, $30,000 would really be a minimal testing expense for them. Especially since I'm sure many of them are running the flogs in multiple markets - teeth whitening, diet blogs, investing, etc.

The full-page advertisement was run across three major business opportunity magazines as well. I would imagine they got a discount for running across all three, but if not it would be around $30,000 to run the advertisements.

Interesting that big buck classifieds are being used, wonder how much the bill will get to before the cons skip?
