]]> When Affiliate Programs go wrong could have been an even more appropriate title. But, before I get too deep into this I just want everyone to see the education in this post rather than me ranting about how much I do not like Shopping Ads. It's not a deep hatred for this adsense alternative but rather a simply notice of a poor excuse and a poor way to treat affiliates in general.

So in a nutshell here's the story of how NOT to treat affiliates. For around 1 year I stayed as one of the top Shopping Ads affiliates and in fact I even wrote an e-book that taught people some clever ways to make money with their program. In fact, over the course of a few months I even built up a good standing with their CEO and they featured my E-book Easy Shopping Ads Profits on their blog. However, they began to make changes within the company and at one point I wasn't even sure who the CEO is or became or if it was still the same person. They began making many mistakes like: not paying affiliates on time, not notifying affiliates of changes, ads not displaying correctly and support was very slow for this Google adsense alternative. Keep in mind they always had issues with uptime for ads and slow response rates but they continued to seem very reactive rather than proactive.

A quick flashback: back when I originally started with Shopping Ads I had lost my password and for some reason their automated system wasn't re-sending my login info as they had many other issues. So I contacted their help desk asking how to get my password reset and after days and multiple emails I still heard nothing back. So I ended up setting up another account with nearly all the exact same information, paypal address etc. You'll see the importance of this paragraph later in this post.

In early spring of 2009 Shopping Ads went through even more changes that they never really explained to the affiliates. Many of these changes stemmed from shady affiliates who were inappropriately using their service. Many of these affiliates were probably signing up for multiple accounts and signing themselves up on their second tier. Those type of actions all always frowned upon and I am not sure any affiliate network would be OK with that. Shopping Ads notified users of the changes by simply putting a message on the inside of the account of the user. Interestingly enough they never sent emails out to affiliates though, which seems odd. I immediately contacted their support desk asking them about the changes and if everything for my account looks OK In typically fashion, I received no answer yet again. A couple months went by and all looked well, my links continued to generate hits and sales for their network, they continued to pay me but all the while I still received absolutely no email from them.

At the end of April I logged into my account only to find the account had been banned because of having 2 accounts with the same email address. Now, don't get me wrong I wasn't at all shocked seeing how their support has been non existent and wouldn't think this would be something out of the ordinary for them. There was a brief note in red in my account saying that I'd been banned and that I need to contact support to inquire about my future payments from them to discuss the situation. However, at the bottom of the page there was another little box saying that it basically wouldn't do any good to contact support as they will not fix anyones account. I of course emailed them since there is no other way to contact them and still have yet to hear from them anyways. However, due to their statement I am sure I will not hear back from them.

OK, now there reason for this post isn't to rip on Shopping Ads and tell people to leave them. In fact, I'm not even mad. However, the purpose of this post is to point out things you should watch for if you're an affiliate and things to not do if you have affiliates promoting your network, products or services for you.

If you're an affiliate for a network and their support seems to be non existent you might start to raise a red flag. Now, keep in mind I don't mean if you send them an email on Friday and you don't hear from them until Monday. I understand lack of support over the weekends. Where I would and should have raised a red flag myself is when support failed to respond to me on a regular basis.

As an affiliate late payments should start to raise a red flag as well. If a network starts paying extremely late on a regular basis or continually mispaying you then there could be more problems. This should hold especially true for someone that should be a top alternative to adsense.

If you're an affiliate and you also notice a lot of downtime with a company's website, affiliate program and overall problems with the system this too may raise a red flag. Of course, it all comes down to your patience and what you're willing to go through but most of all you're going to want paid. If the program is flawed you might be missing out.

Now, affiliate program owners and product owners who rely on affiliates to help promote you pay special attention. Your affiliates are the lifeblood of your system. Without affiliates you have much less to show for your work. Cherish your affiliates and make sure they know how much you appreciate them. If you cannot demonstrate that why should they stay?

Here are a few things affiliate networks and product owners who have affiliates should always do.

#1. Answer support. If you are an individual product owner and don't have the means to pay for support yet do it yourself in a timely fashion. If you're getting the same questions over and over either fix the problem or make an FAQ sheet that everyone should read before emailing you. However, even if you make a FAQ sheet the ultimate goal should be to fix whatever problem was going on to avoid this in the future and avoid alienating your affiliates.

#2. Make sure everything is working. Nothing is more frustrating to an affiliate trying to promote your product or service but the links or system aren't working. Resorting back to my previous point : If it is broken fix it.

#3. Listen to your affiliates. Sometimes it's impossible to please everyone but if you have hundreds of people clamoring about the same thing, listen. This will help you or your company not only avoid problems but it will also win the respect of your affiliates.

#4. If you make changes that effect your TOS make the affiliate AGREE to it. This is important as all affiliates in the Shopping Ads issue originally agreed to a totally different Terms of Service and we were never given a chance to place our signature on the line, so to speak. A simple email being sent out telling people of the changes will be good but make sure to state that if they do not agree they need to exit the program and quit.

#5. Pay your affiliates. This is a no-brainer but I have to say it. If you tell your affiliates they will be paid by XX-Date, pay them. Now, circumstances could cause this to be a day or 2 late but in most cases it should be easy to pay on time. Imagine a regular job where the company never paid on time? That would make life a bit frustrating. Simply put yourself in your affiliates shoes for a moment and that should help you figure out if paying them 1-3 weeks late continually is OK.

There is a lot more that I can go into here but this is all I have for the post at this time. I think everyone is wise enough to make their own opinion about what are good business and bad business practices. Remember if you're an affiliate for someone and you start noticing the type of inconsistencies I mentioned in this post it may be time to jump ship. Another so called Google Adsense Alternative bites the dust in my opinion.

]]> Over the last year alot of buzz (mostly negative) has came out about sites that claim you can make money posting links on Google.  A word of warning straight out of the gate:  Do not fall to the temptation to even try programs that tell you you'll make money by posting links on Google.

Let me explain this in a little more detail.

There are 2 ways to get links to show up on Google's search engine and that's it.  The first way is organically.  The second way is to pay for a link using Google Adwords.  If you've ever seen those advertisements at the top and right side of the screen on the Google search engines, those are Adwords links.

Let's first talk about Google Adwords.  This is the paid way to get links to any website listed on Google.  It's also the easiest and the fastest way.  However, it cost money and I do not recommend doing this for beginners.  The object is to show up on the first page of Google.  Most beginners who try to market using Adwords fail and end up spending alot more than they make.

There are many factors that will help you rank when doing PPC (pay per click – a.k.a. Adwords) marketing on Google.

#1.  Quality Score: This score is a combination of several factors that include your landing page and more importantly the title and keywords that are on your landing page.  There are other factors that are involved but those are the basics of it.

#2.  Price: How much you're willing to pay per click.  Some words cost more, some less.  If your quality score is low you'll spend more for your clicks.  If the keywords you're bidding for are very competitive you'll spend more as well.  If you're quality score is low and you're in a competitive field, Good Luck!

So that's one way to get links on Google.  The next way is organic.  This means to rank you're site naturally in the rankings without paying for the clicks.  It would be impossible for me to sufficiently explain how to get and profit from free search engine traffic (visitors) in this post. If you like that idea better than the idea of paying to get traffic from Google and other search engines you might consider taking a look at a system like  Niche Blitzkrieg that guides you step by step and has a helpful forum for you in case you get stuck.

Organic is a much cheaper route to go unless you are having someone do all the work for you.  As I mentioned earlier in the post if you're a beginner you should steer away from PPC until you know what you're doing.  Once you understand how to rank ogranically in the search engines and understand the concepts PPC shouldn't even be an option.

I want you to keep in mind that these are the only ways to get your links in Google.  Any system out there that is being promoted that all you have to do is post links on Google to make money is, in my opinion, not worth even looking at.  Systems like Niche Blitzkrieg teach new folks how to rank organically and make money.  Once you've mastered a course like that and learned how to design your site and get found in the search engines you can consider starting a PPC campaign.  Getting your links posted on Google can actually happen but not the way many programs are telling you it can.

]]> If you've considered buying an online product that teaches you to make money from home you may have noticed the rash of Free (or almost free) Trial offers springing up almost everywhere.  It seems these products are nearly a "dime a dozen" anymore.  Large affiliate companies are promoting there products and selling thousands of copies per day so the odds are you're going to see one soon enough if you haven't yet.

Sadly, most of these type of products have hidden terms stuffed deep within their terms of service that the marketer or company hopes you never see.  Since they don't want you to see it they also try endlessly to distract you from reading it or often times keep you from even realizing it's there.  Once you sign up for one of these products you may never even get your product and worse yet you'll have anything but fun trying to keep them from charging your credit card!

How can this all be changed?  Well it can't and won't change.  Marketers and companies will continue to do this because it makes them a fortune, fast.  But, that doesn't mean you can't do something about it.  The biggest weapon against this is to protect yourself from this and read the terms of service before purchasing.  It's also wise to educate yourself with sites like the one you're at right now before ever buying a product.  But, what I want to discuss in this post isn't about what to avoid and what marketers are shady or even what companies are shady.  I want to discuss how a company can actually do a Free Trial the right way!  I call these  Zero – Fee Home Business Trials and it's the way I believe a FREE trial should be done.

#1.  A free trial should tell someone what they are getting upfront.  That's right, not hide everything within the TOS.  Whether this is done by video or text it should be honest and straight forward from the very beginning.

#2. If it's truly free you shouldn't have to put in your credit card number.  Watch out for this one if you are signing up for a free offer and it mentions that it's free and you have t put in your credit card information.  Another thing to watch out for is the $1 (almost free trial) because with those you MUST enter your credit card information which means that if you didn't read the terms of service chances are you're going to get an additional charge(s) somewhere.

#3.  You as a consumer should get ample time to actually test the product.  If the free trial only last a couple of days and you have to wait for the product chances are the company is just looking for an easy way to charge you whether you even got a chance to try it out or not.  This can also be a clue that a company thinks their product isn't very good if they offer a very short trial period and hope to simply prevent you from being able to cancel in time.  7 days and more should be an ample trial period.  If the product is physical the 7 days should begin after the product is received and not while it's being shipped.  Of course, going back to rule #2 they should have no way to "CHARGE" you since this type of offer should not ask for a credit card upfront.

#4.  You should be given the option to upgrade.  If you like the free product or free trial then you should have the option to upgrade.  Of course for the upgrade you'll need to enter your credit or debit card and then you'll be given access to the upgraded features or products.  This is the point where the company should be honored for making a product that you actually want to learn more from.

#5.  Even the upgrade should offer a money back guarantee just in case the rest of the product doesn't live up to the demo.  30 days or more should be ample to determine if this product is right for you or not.

#6.  Both sides should understand their role and both parties should be accountable unless for some reason either side breaches the agreement.  So if the merchant/company doesn't deliver on their end what they claim they will, that would be considered a breach.  Likewise, the consumer should be held accountable and held to the terms they agree to during purchase.  As a consumer you always have the option to turn down something that sounds "to good to be true" or seems the least bit dishonest.  Of course, read over the terms of service as if you' were about to make an important business investment and make sure it makes sense to you.

That's my take on the proper way to do a free trial offer as a company.  If other companies would read this and take heed on the proper way to run a zero fee home business trial  the world would be a much better place.  However, don't expect to see many companies take the "honest" rute as I described anytime soon.

]]> I remember when I was about 17 years old I used to lay awake and dream of being successful.  What I didn't understand at the time was being successful doesn't mean you need to make $29 Million a Year and have the biggest house in your hemisphere.  It would take years for me to discover that success is right in front of your nose and sometimes only takes a few small changes in your life to be a success.

First let's look at what successful means according to the dictionary: Success – having attained wealth, position, honors, or the like.

Not really as informative as I would describe it.  I believe success means that you have succeeded at what you're attempting to do in at a particular time in your life.  For instance, if your goal is to make $100,000 a year and you achieve that, I would say you're successful.  However, if your goal is to make $1 million per year than you've only achieved 10% of your success that you want to obtain. In short, success can really only be measured by the individual goals and achievements of a person and not what the world sees.

If you haven't yet achieved what you hope to achieve and you're still laying awake at night saying "How Can I Become Successful" then pay attention.  Below I have a list that has helped students of mine succeed with what they hope to achieve.

#1.  Set Goals. No matter what you're doing you must set goals.  The pursuit of goals will help drive you toward the prize and even if you have yet to meet your goals, other people might look at you and see you as a successful person.  Why?  Because at this point you will probably achieve goals set by other people and just aren't to where you want to be yet.  I am an Internet Marketer and I work from home, earn a good living and have all the free time I need to spend with my family.  Because of those things some people may think I am successful.  However, I have only conquered the tip of the iceberg of what I hope to achieve with my life.  My goals have not been met yet, some have, but not all of them have.

#2.  Stay positive. I probably sound like Tony Robbins here but trust me you need to be positive in your life.  The people who always believe they are going to fail, probably will.  The people who believe they will succeed at everything they do, probably will.  Mindset is simply to important to ignore.  Have you ever taken a test that you panicked about and thought that you'd fail?  How did you do on that test?  While some might say they still did extremely well, most will say that they didn't achieve the grade they wanted.  I know test taking might be a thing of the past for most (as it is for me) but it's a good example of what a negative confidence can cause.

#3.  Stop playing. This one can be a bit tricky because there are so many meanings here.  What I mean is that so many things distract us from our goals and then we tend to shy away from what we need to achieve.  Have you ever had an important task that you need to accomplish get postponed because you simply had "Other things to do?"  If you have, then you probably realized that you really would have had time for that task had you prioritized it properly.  So get the distractions out of your way and take care of the most important tasks first in your day and play when the work is done.

#4.  Stay focused. An important step when learning how to become successful is to make sure you stay focused on your goals.  I am not saying to think about them every minute of the day but more so pursuing them after the weekend ends.  You probably know what I mean.  Have you ever went back to work after a long weekend and you just didn't feel like working?  A solution to this is to remind yourself of your goals after that weekend.  Whether you are striving to hit your short term goals or long term goals, stay focused on them.  Hang on every positive step you take towards that goal and it will help you stay even more focused than before.

#5.  Just do it. Good slogan, huh?  Well it might just be the perfect slogan for you.  As humans we tend to procrastinate as long as possible.  Then the people that do not procrastinate sometimes will lean toward perfection as an excuse, saying things like " I can't start that yet because I'm not where I want to be in my life."  If we are always looking for the perfect moment in our lives to get on the road to success, it's probably going to pass us by.  I can think of a million reasons a day why I can't start a new task yet.  Just do it.

I really hope this helps you get a start in the right direction if you're struggling.  Am I perfect?  No.  I fall into the same traps but then looking at this list I remember who I am, what my goals are and what I hope to achieve.  Keep in mind as you achieve more goals you get closer to the prize.  One day you'll look back and remember the time you asked yourself how to become successful.

]]> This post title may confuse you a little at first but let me make it clear exactly what I mean.  If you own a company or businesses of your own and are just in the service industry field, there are certain ways to treat your customer and ways to not treat them.  Likewise, as a customer there are certain ways to be treated and sometimes the customer doesn't understand that they are being fleeced or taken advantage of and I want to shed some light on how a business and customer should conduct themselves to make the best of a potentially bad situation.

Business or company owners take heed. Do not treat your customer like a dollar sign.  This means basically that you still need to pay attention to the customer service aspect and not only worry about making money from them.  It seems the bigger a business gets the more they forget that the customer is entitled to be treated with respect.  You can of course treat them like unethically and come off with a nasty demeanor but that person is not likely to ever come back.  The other loss is that they will tell their friends how much they HATE your business.  You by now know the "10 person rule" if not it basically states that an angry customer who goes away still feeling angry will tell at least 10 people how horrible you are and then those 10 tell 10 more etc and so on.  Now how accurate is that?  I have no idea but I wouldn't want to take the chance.

REFUNDS: This is one of the most important ones.  Honor your policies.  If you say you will give a refund for up to 30 days make sure to give a requesting customer a refund.  Even if that customer says they think the product sucks, that you suck or that they just didn't understand them.  The point is that you take care of them and turn a customer who could become potential upset into a customer that thanks you for giving them a timely refund.  Trust me I've had customers who sounded hostile in the beginning because they didn't think a course was for them but I quickly defused the situation by honoring my refund policy and taken care of their needs.  Several customers have thanks me for that course of action and several sent their friends over who they believe would be interested in the course.

Don't ask questions (unless you really don't know why they'd refund) but just simply process the refund.  If this is a customer who has returned something else previously you might ask them why they continue to buy and refund.  If you determine that they are taking advantage of your system then donot allow them politely tell them to stop buying your products if they are going to keep returning them.  Unless of course something was defective with their purchase.

Let's look at refunds as if you're the cusomer now.  If something offers a refund policy you are entitled to that refund.  If someone tries to tell you you can't have a refund but yet they have a policy stating that they give refunds, press the issue.  You deserve that respect.  If you're ordering online make sure you read their policy which should be on their sales page or somewhere that isn't draped in fine print.  If they have too much fine print and no refund policy, be wary.

As a Customer what not to do when asking for a refund. This one applies to mainly wanting a refund on online orders but can work in offline markets as well.  The #1 thing not to do is assume that you're getting fleeced until you've heard back from the mechant.  Of course if it takes them 4 days to get back to you you might send them a reminder email and then take more agreesive action if they still haven't gotten back to you within a resonable amount of time.  Often times during late night hours online merchants will not have a support staff online.  So give ample time for them to respond back to you or for the refund to be processed.

My comapny deals mainly with marketing my online teaching products that teach people how to make money using the internet and it's only natural to have a small amount of refunds.  In the past 2 years and with thousands of sales I've only had 2 refunds where the customer was irrate and both issues were things that we couldn't control.  One of the customers actually emailed me about 15 times in the middle of the night.  Sure my support staff processed her refund first thing that they logged on the next day but she could have saved herself alot of time and just sent 1 email.

As a business owner make sure you are upfront and clear with your clients and customers don't lie to them.  The first time you lie to a customer and they figure you out, they aren't coming back and the 10 person rule takes effect again.

Ok, Last thing I want to talk about is SUPPORT.  This applies to online and offline businesses.  There are times where support is needed and it doesn't mean that your product whether informational or physical is bad.  There are times where someone doesn't understand your product or your product malfunctions and they will need help.  The best thing to do is have a support staff whether it's you, one other person or a team of people.  However, make sure you take care of customer support issues in a timely fashion.  What is a reasonable time? 24-48 hours tops.  The customer already paid good money for your product support it and make them happy.  If you can't take care of their problem figure out a way to get it taken care of or simply offer a refund as a last resort.  Often time don't just jump to give them a refund and think that will fix the problem.  Chances are that customer really wanted your product or they wouldn't have bought it.  Again if you're the customer in this situation offer ample time for the merchant to respond and take care of the issue.

There is actually hundreds of things I could talk about in this post and maybe I will do a follow up post on this soon but for now follow the advice in here and keep your customers happy.  Also customers make things even easier by following what I outline here and make sure that the merchant honors what they say they will honor in a resonableamount of time.

Today I want to share a few tips with anyone who has uttered the words "I want to quit my job".  These tips are not to be taken lightly and are extremely important elements for understanding what it takes to leave the 9-5 world and work when you want day or night.  Many people have turned to the net to start earning an income – is it right for you?

#1.  Determine if working from the INTERNET is right for you – I know it sounds funny to have to question this but some people have no desire to work online.  I myself couldn't imagine not working online now and I never want to end up at another day job.  I believe anyone can work online but it has to be something you a truly interested in.  The ones that fail are the ones looking to just make a score of quick cash in 3 weeks.  Get rich schemes do not work, period.  If you've been a member of Work at Home Truth for sometime now you'll see where Paul points that out on several occasions.

#2.  The key element is starting part time on your own outside of your day job – as you start building up a INTERNET income pay down your bills.  Once you've worked online for a couple of years part time you should be able to supplement your income enough to quit your day job for good.  (Side Note: It took me 12 months to quit my day job and I started with $0 Online.)

#3.  Believe in your success – believe it or not it's a deciding factor.  If you go into something saying "this isn't going to work" it won't.  Believe in yourself and take the time to learn new things.  Donald Trump didn't start making Billions overnight but it started with the belief that he would.

#4.  Allow Time.  It took me 2 months before I made any money online and it wasn't substantial until about 6 months into it.  The remaining 6 months of my first 12 months is where I made all my money at.  Part of the problem I faced is I didn't have a good guide or course to guide me through earning an online income if Niche Blitzkrieg had existed at that point my success would have happened much sooner.  So allow time and follow someone who is proven in the industry to help teach you how to make money.  It's often believed that the people who make money online are just brilliant to begin with and kinda stumbled over piles of cash overnight.  Trust me I'm not brilliant, I had horrible grades in school and in fact, dropped out of college after barely being there.  The key element that every successful person online needed was time to allow everything to come together, time to learn, time to grow etc.  So allow time for your learning and allow time to show you where the money is.

#5.   Stay consistent.  If you expect to come online and make money by working 1 day a week and then taking 2 weeks off, it's not going to happen.  You have to come up with a way to get online and learn every few days at least.  Think about this, could you learn anything only putting in 1 hour a week and expect to actually be good at it?  Think about your current job, how long did it take to get good at doing that?  So no matter what schedule appropriate time to learn and grow to make money online.

Keep in mind that if you follow a solid income building plan you can drastically reduce the learning curve.  This happens because it's laser targeted to show you what makes money online and it literally takes out the guess work.  My learning came from trial and error and a lot of failure.  Had I had the game plan in front of me it would have come faster.  When you start a program like Niche Blitzkrieg remember to use the steps I showed you above and really take time out to learn.  Those who learn and put their knowledge into action find success.  Those that learn and don't use the knowledge won't find the success they are looking.  So take action and go achieve your goals and you could join the club of people who are saying "I just quit my job – for good".

So of course I cut up a banana and let him eat it, and he sat there smiling. He had some other things for lunch and during that time my wife had made cookies.

Let me tell you – the kid loves Cookies.  He of course asked for a cookie when he saw my wife (Beth) take a the cookie sheet out of the oven.

So I gave him a cookie.

Then he wanted another cookie when that was done and I said no.  He began to kick and scream and throw a temper tantrum but didn't budge.

Now had I given him the cookie he would have had way too much sugar than he needs at this point in his life. Potentially this would have been bad for him, possibly even making him sick.

It also helps me train my son to know he can't always have everything he wants and that we make the rules – which is good to do early on.

Now after he tantrum I picked him up and he gave me a hug and we sat down in the chair for his nap.  Instead of the Cookie I gave him a small bottle of vanilla soy milk and he contently began to drink it.

So at this point you might be wondering "Michael, what the HECK does this have to do with anything?"

Well this story was perfect to go into the way I talk and help clients to learn.  You see I don't promote all these BIG GURU launches and I never promote anything I haven't read or used myself.

Why?  Because often while the product may be good (never used them so I don't know) it's probably not the product you need.  Plus, most of my newsletter subscribers don't want to spend $2000.

Rightfully so.  I don't care if you make a million dollars $2k is still $2k.  See sometimes marketers promote "Guru" products, just so they can look important.

That's one of the reasons I like to give my best discounts – like the WorkAtHomeTruth Niche Blitzkrieg special – to the subscribers and visitors at WorkAtHomeTruth…because I remember what it's like to learn to make money on the internet and the last thing a beginning marketer needs is to stress themselves out by racking up debt on their credit card to by a $2,000 "Guru" product that may or may not work.

You see, it doesn't matter if I "look" important or if I am perceived as important.  I don't care if no one ever knows my name.  If I wanted the spotlight I would have went to Hollywood.

That's it…. That's all that matters.  Plain and simple. It's not screen shots of $600,000 paypal accounts or claims of making $50k a day etc.  If someone is doing that – GREAT!

Most people will never make that much, period.

However, if you have a solid foundation you can make a great living online $5k-$10k plus a month online.  Sure you can do better than that but $10k a month isn't a bad living , right?

That's why you see that most of my products that come out teach the fundamentals of marketing and how to guides to start making your living online rather than "the flavor of the day".

Marketing isn't a new concept.  It's been with us since the beginning of time. Whether your online or offline the laws of marketing are the same.

The great thing about going online with marketing are the amount of outlets like, email, video, forums,skype and chat services etc. where you can make sales from.

When I build products like Niche BlitzKrieg and the concept is simple: Make products that will help other's make more money and at the same time allow them to be able to eat at the end of the month.

My goal isn't to make as much money as possible off clients and readers of my newsletters and e-books but rather to train them how to make money and be successful, quit their dayjob and get away from the struggle.
