From the 9/14/2009 Trademarkia Press Release:

"SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., SEPTEMBER 14, 2009 – Trademarkia (www.trademarkia.com), the fresh, easy and intelligent way for people to create a brand, today previews its free service at TechCrunch50. Trademarkia was selected to demonstrate its product in TechCrunch50 – a showcase of the world's hottest new startups – from among more than 1,000 applicants in 26 different countries.

Where Trademarkia fits
Trademarkia is for busy people who want an effortless way to create a business name from the millions of trademarks filed at the United States Trademark Office that have now gone abandoned; receive email and SMS reminders and alerts on counterfeit brands; and find savings worth an average of $1,000 within minutes of use. People have really had only two ways to create a new brand in the past: come up with it on their own and hire a consultant. 6 million businesses in the U.S. need to create brands for their business, products, and services each year. Until Trademarkia, the option of creating a business name from abandoned names did not exist anywhere on the web because there was no way to find such names. Even when a good name for a brand was identified, verification of availability of a particular brand name required the assistance of expensive attorneys. What would the world be like if we couldn't "Google" information we did not already know? Such a world may have been our fate, had the prior holders of that mark not abandoned their ownership of it. Until Trademarkia, once fledging startups such as Google, Twitter, and Yelp (all previously owned brands) had to rely on expensive attorneys to find out whether previously expired brands were in fact available for purchase.

Startup entrepreneur and intellectual property attorney Raj Abhyanker considered these things when creating Trademarkia. "Trademarkia is essentially creating a market in which abandoned business names can be recycled similar to the now $1 billion+ expired domain industry." Trademarkia exposes the millions of historical business names, slogans and logos since the year 1870 that have now gone abandoned and makes them available for re-registration."

The following is a list of free keyword utility programs useful for keyword manipulation and/or keyword list expansion after doing research with other keyword tools (I will put out a separate list of those):

These are keyword utilities primarily used to manipulate, expand, or analyze keyword lists that have been generated from keyword research tools.

Google Suggest:
http://labs.google.com/suggest/
Good for verifying correct spelling or additional keyword suggestions.

Keyword List Dedupers:
http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/keyword-optimizer
Paste in your list of key terms and this tool will remove any duplicate entries. It will also re-order the list alphabetically

Duplicate Keyword Remover Tool
http://www.servermind.com/keyword-cleanup.php

Keyword List Generators:
http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-list
Allows you to generate a large number of keyword phrases based on permutations of keywords you enter.

3 Keyword Combination Tools from Ranks.nl
http://www.ranks.nl/tools/keyword_combinations.html
These tools go beyond the typical linkers & permutators, by allowing the user to specify additional results criteria like:

1) Don't include phrases starting with a certain keyword.
2) Don't change the order of certain keywords (e.g. "on line")
3) For two word combinations generated, give both the
AB and BA results.

Keyword Mixer
http://www.keywordmixer.com
The "Mixer" portion of this tool creates common domain name variations which can be useful to use as keywords in PPC -or as tags in web platforms that allow tags.

Jumbo Keyword
http://www.jumbokeyword.com
"JUMBO Keyword is a free web-based Google AdWords tool offering 70+ 1-click Google AdWords, keywords and text editing functions to help you create, manage and edit hundreds, even thousands, of AdWords keywords quickly and easily. There's even an ad editor to help you create ads for your Google AdWords campaigns." (description from the site)

Keyword List Sorter – useful for many other types of
sorting as well:
http://www.sortmylist.com

Local Keyword Generator:
http://www.5minutesite.com/local_keywords.php

Typo Generators:
http://tools.seobook.com/spelling/keywords-typos.cgi

Today I learned the term Express Backlinks – apparently I'm not the only one that learned the term Express Backlinks as I checked the Google Keyword tool and it had no data showing for the term Express Backlinks at all.

Anyone who read John Mann's excellent article about the basics of competitive analysis here will see why I'm not impressed with the example the ExpressBacklinks tool uses to promote itself.

This made me wonder why the software from ExpressBacklinks.net was bragging about how it achieved the #1 position for the term "express backlinks" on it's sales page. Here's the screenshot of the demand google shows for the term "express backlinks":

You'll see that I used "broad match" which will show the MOST possible searches for the term as it includes searches for the term and any other terms including the term even if the two words that make up the term are not contiguous.

Personally, I'd be more excited about ranking for a keyword that at least showed SOME search volume. I'm not saying that the Google Keyword tool is the "be all and end all", but there are other issues with using the term "express backlinks".

First I did the most BASIC competitive research search that any good student of SEO will know:

allintitle:"express backlinks" which turned up the following:

Second, I did the same search without the quotation marks:

allintitle:express backlinks and still there were only a measly 188 competitors:

Personally, I wouldn't brag to the entire world about my software based on a term showing no demand and hardly any competition at all. I even checked the top five competitors and they don't appear to be optimizing for the term Express Backlinks at all (except ExpressBacklinks.net of course):

The coupe de grace was entering the ExpressLinks.net site used in their example into BackLinkWatch.com immediately followed by entering the WorkAtHomeTruth.com site into BackLinkWatch.com (I cut off the WorkAtHomeTruth exampleas it would have taken a VERY long time to show all the backlinks). Enjoy:

If anyone has further insight about the ExpressBacklinks tool, let me know. Or if you have a better example than what ExpressBacklinks is currently showing on their sales page that would be helpful, too.

So far, I'm not seeing much impressive about the example they are showing to sell their tool for getting express backlinks.

I just found this handy list sorting tool that allows you to sort your list in many different useful ways.

This is NOT your basic list sorting tool. This is one that you will seriously want to bookmark and even study for a few minute.

And if there's a sort feature that you don't find, but think will be useful, you can send them a sample and if they think it's useful, they'll add it in.

Oh, and you can even mirror the words in a list (put them backwards) if for some odd reason you want to do that.

Here's a brief sample of that seemingly useful trick;

John Reese
Willie Crawford
Patrick Petty
Michael Brown
Paul Schlegel

legelhcS luaP
nworB leahciM
ytteP kcirtaP
drofwarC eilliW
eseeR nhoJ

Well, actually the list is backwards AND upside down.

Anyhow, check out the actual useful features here:

Once again HyperOffice has proven that they can reclaim their status as a pioneer and a leader. We've talked about some of their breakthroughs previously – but their new conferencing technology – HyperMeeting – fills a real gap in the web conferencing marketplace.

Here are the the biggest breakthroughs from HyperMeeting in our opinion…

There are a lot of incredibly useful features that none of the confercing solutions we've used offer, but the core gap that HyperMeeting has filled is the ability to share applications, documents or even your entire desktop with meeting participants in real time.

Also incredibly useful is the ability to transfer files to all of the participants. How many times have you needed to discuss a document in a meeting and had to email the document to everyone and then wait for them to retrieve it to get the meeting started? HyperMeeting makes those days obsolete.

Are you doing business globally? Then you know that the entire world is not on broadband. In fact there it was not until July of 2008 that Broadband penetration in Australia exceeded the number of dialup users there. In other words this is not an issue that only affects developing nations.

So how does HyperMeeting solve this problem? Caching is fine and they do that, but they go behind the basic caching of other services and display fixed dimension slides when slow connections are detected.

The other thing HyperMeeting offers that is quite unique is "control-passing" which allows participants to take control of presenting which allows everyone to participate. Another gap they've filled in the traditional conferencing marketplace.

For those of you who have used systems that require a software download, you'll be happy to know that HyperMeeting has eliminated that step which can sometimes be a hurdle for meeting participants.

Yesterday I signed up for the PassPack Password Manager service and I learned about a whole new level of data security. But before I continue, if you're going to sign up for PassPack here's an important tip:

Sign up in a place where nobody else is around and keep a pad of paper handy! This is just to record your information initially. Maybe your memory is better than mine, but I forgot my "unpack" key soon after I first signed up for the PassPack password manager (it's actually much more than just a password manager).

From their site:

"Passpack does not maintain a copy of your Packing Key and can not recover it, nor your Entries, if it is lost."

Also important is this notice from PassPack's "Terms and Conditions" page:

"Furthermore it is forbidden to store critical data such as, but not limited to, financial data or access data to financial institutions, or any data which, if lost, stolen or destroyed, could result in personal or public catastrophe."

Click here to view PassPack's full Terms and Conditions.

I'm planning to discuss some impressive data security measures HyperOffice has in place, including employee-based security measures (and the legal ramifications for HyperOffice employees if the don't follow the measures which is actually the most important part of a policy like that) but for now I just want to discuss PassPack's security algorithm which is based on the Advanced Encryption Standard which is an algorithm approved by the National Security Agency for protecting top secret information.

Right now you can store up to 100 passwords for free but as of 6/30/2008 you can upgrade for free and then the first paid upgrade will be at about $10.00 per year and will include some features that PassPack isn't disclosing yet.

Click here to visit the PassPack blog here to keep tabs on current developments and news.
