How the most common lottery scams work...

The most common lottery scams are foreign lottery scams. Most promotions for foreign lotteries are phony. Typically you'll receive a mailing or a call from a telemarketer saying that if you send money to them to buy tickets, you'll have a very good chance of winning a foreign lottery.

Unfortunately, after you send your money, either the company doesn't buy the lottery tickets or the company does buy the tickets, but keeps any winnings for themselves.

And to add insult to injury lottery scam artists may use your bank account numbers to make unauthorized withdrawals or your credit card numbers to make additional charges.
