I posted this on the main blog, but since the larger list of fake news sites is here in the not recommended section I thought it would make sense to post it here as well. I’ve tracked an incredible number of flogs (fake blogs) that are usually either a fake success story or a fake news story over the past few years. Unfortunately it seems as if they are here to stay. 
What is disturbing is that most of the marketers using these flogs appear to think that just by putting the word “Advertorial” on their page they can proceed to do anything they want, including some or all of the following:
- Putting all kinds of made-up comments in a comments area of the flog.
- Claiming that the fake story they put on their site was used on major media outlets like MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, CBS, etc.
- Placing an advertising area INSIDE the advertorial (VERY confusing)
- Using legitimate news video footage within their fake stories.
Needless to say, a lot of them just don’t even bother to use any sort of advertorial disclaimer. One thing is for sure, though. You should almost always (if not ALWAYS) avoid anything these fake news sites promote.
