News 8 Reports review of red flags

If you’ve had the misfortune of running across the News 8 Reports fake news site (Advertorial) you may have noticed quite a few strange things about it. Even though it claims to be an Advertorial ( an article and designed to look like a legitimate and independent news story).

Here are the News 8 Reports red flags:

Red Flag #1) Promoting a questionable bizop product

Right now News8Reports.com promotes a product called Home Cash Flow Solution – also known as eHomeCashFlowSolution. You can see the red flags for those by clicking on the links below:

Red Flag #2) Uses “As Seen On TV” With No Reference To Anything

News 8 Report Uses “As Seen On TV” on it’s website, but doesn’t say exactly WHAT they are claiming was seen on TV. They do have a video clip of  Tanya Rivero presenting a very general story about working from home by Stacy Johnson.

That show has NOTHING directly to do with either News 8 Reports, Home Cash flow Solution, or e Home Cash Flow Solution.

Red Flag #3) News8Reports.com Uses Famous Media Logos With No Explanation

News8Reports uses the following logos:

  • ABC Good Morney America
  • NBC
  • The New York Times
  • Readers Digest

However it gives no explanation as to why they are there. However I can tell you that they have NOTHING to do with the following:

  • News8Reports.com
  • Home Cash Flow Solution
  • e Home Cash Flow Solution

Red Flag #4) News 8 Reports Uses Fake Comments

News8Reports.com is an advertorial, but just because it’s an advertorial doesn’t mean it should be able to make up anything it wants.

How can you tell the comments on the News8Reports.com site are fake? Because the exact same comments are used on tons of OTHER fake news sites. Here’s an image showing what I mean:

Fake Comment About $2,800 Check

Red Flag #6) News8Reports uses a “GeoIp” script to fill in YOUR city for where “Melissa Johnson” lives.

No matter where YOU are from, Melissa Johnson is from there, too! “Amazing”. ;-)

Red Flag #5) News 8 Reports uses a very difficult to find disclaimer at the bottom of it’s web page which states:

“It is important to note that this site and the stories depicted above is to be used as an illustrative example of what some individuals have achieved with this/these products. This website, and any page on the website, is based loosely off a true story, but has been modified in multiple ways including, but not limited to: the story, the photos, and the comments. Thus, this blog, and any page on this website, are not to be taken literally or as a non-fiction story. This blog, and the results mentioned on this blog, although achievable for some, are not to be construed as the results that you may achieve on the same routine. I UNDERSTAND THIS WEBSITE IS ONLY ILLUSTRATIVE OF WHAT MIGHT BE ACHIEVABLE FROM USING THIS/THESE PRODUCTS, AND THAT THE STORY DEPICTED ABOVE IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.  This page receives compensation for clicks on or purchase of products featured on this site. ”

Automatic Profit System review and analysis of sales page

Automatic Profit System wants you to believe that you can make cash quickly using its system. But the REAL problem is that Automatic Profit System seems to want you to believe it’s a “job” when it states:

“I want a job that pays substantially well enough that I can take care of my family and give them everything they need…”

So as part of your due-diligence in considering whether or not to buy Automatic Profit System I HIGHLY recommend you review the following red-flags I found on the Automat Profit System sales page:

Automatic Profit System red-flag #1)

Claim: Automatic Profit System claims to be the internet’s “#1 Rated Work-At-Home Opportunity”.

Problem: but doesn’t say who’s rated them this way.

Automatic Profit System red-flag #2)

Claim: “David Palmer” claims that he’s recognized by many as America’s top work-at-home consultant.

Problem: I’ve seen hundreds of sites make this claim, INCLUDING ones that were shut down by the Federal Trade Commission.

Automatic Profit System red-flag #3)

Claim: “David Palmer” using pen-name (this isn’t always a red-flag, see below as to why it is in this case).

Problem: Automatic Profit System puts a disclaimer WAY at the bottom of the page in fine print that “*For purposes of privacy, the creator of Automatic Profit System is using the name David Palmer. This story is based upon the real life adaptation of the parties involved. The Company reserves the rights to the name and any uses of it as affiliated with the product. Any improper uses by unauthorized parties is strictly prohibited.”

Usually, there’s no problem with someoby using a pen name, BUT, when you see a pen name on a website like Automatic Profit System which has many OTHER red flags, then you SHOULD consider the use of a pen name a red-flag.

Automatic Profit System red-flag #4)

Use of stock photos for testimonials.

AutomaticProfitSystem.com has the following disclaimer at the bottom of their page:

“All Testimonials are 100% Real and Accurate and the attestants have been remunerated for allowing Automatic Profit System’s use of the same. For the sake of customer privacy, Automatic Profit System reserves the right to protect and/or substitute the images of attestants. The images displayed hereon are not the actual images of the attestants. The images displayed hereon have been supplied by Automatic Profit System and are the copyrighted property of Automatic Profit System.”

Any time you see this kind of wording you should consider it a HUGE RED FLAG.

Automatic Profit System red-flag #5)

Claim: FREE one-on-one consultation with an APS Startup Specialist

Problem: Often these FREE one-on-one consultations are used to try to convince you that you need to spend thousands of dollars extra in order to succeed with the system. In fact, I HAVE seen several people say that they HAVE spent thousands of dollars with this company.

Automatic Profit System red-flag #6)

Automatic Profit System is being promoted by numerous fake news sites such as:

  • News1Reports.com
  • News10Reports.com

The BBB has also recently asked Automatic Profit System to substantiate it’s claims. Here’s what they said:

“Advertising Review

On January 15, 2010 the BBB asked the company to substantiate its advertising claims:

1) “The Internet’s #1 Work At Home Opportunity!”

2) “The next 17 people from Saint Petersburg can earn up to $150,000 + this year working one hour a day working from a home computer, using the Internet’s fastest, easiest and laziest system for legally printing money.”

3) “If you have 60 minutes…You Can Use This Proven Solution To Make $500 Today On Autopilot, Just By Pushing A Few Buttons!”

4) “No Experience Required. Satisfaction Is 100% Guaranteed!”

5) Proof of Testimonials) “The Only Solution You’ll Ever Need For Seeing Cash In Just Minutes”

The company has failed to substantiate or modify its claims.”

Automatic Profit System red-flag #7)

Customer support posts on sites where people are complaining.

This is a HUGE RED FLAG and is often done by a company to try preven people from filing complaints with the BBB and FTC in order to stay under the radar of the Federal Trade Commission.

In fact, you can see that the company has posted in this very discussion.

12/27/2010 UPDATE:

The Attorney from Automatic Profit System apparently doesn’t like what’s going on here and wants me to take down this page.

Obviously there’s a MAJOR disagreement about what’s going on here, which means that if anyone feels that the regulators should be involved, they MUST file complaints to bring it to their attention to get their opinion on the matter.  I will also be using my connections to get documentation to them as well to see what they think.

Remember, it’s always innocent until proven guilty – and also it’s important to note that “RED-FLAGS” are only “warning signs” and should only be used as part of your own due diligence.

In other words, it doesn’t mean one side is right and one is wrong at this point, but ultimately it’s the only way that situations like this get resolved one way or the other.

IF you think you’ve been treated unfairly by Automatic Profit System, I’ll explain WHERE you should file complaints and WHY you should file complaints to various State, Local, and Federal Agencies (as well as the BBB). The more complaints you file with EVERY agency the better decision can be made on behalf of all parties involved – consumers as well as the people behind Automatic Profit System.

If you have any questions about any of the preceding or following, just ask me in the comments section.

IMPORTANT! Do NOT file complaints just because you are “mad” at a Automatic Profit System. However, if you feel Automatic Profit System has acted deceptively in your dealings with them or is engaging in unfair business practices then the following is the where and why of how to file complaints:

1. You should DEFINITELY file complaints with the Better Business Bureau. You can file here:

Click here to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

WHY file complaints with the BBB:

I’m not a big fan of the BBB for “evaluating” companies on their own – but they do a GREAT JOB of collecting and organizing complaints.

Not only that, but the FTC reviews complaints from the BBB on a regular basis as part of their gathering of extrinsic evidence on cases (essentially that means evidence outside their review of the actual sales materials and sales process).

2. You should DEFINITELY file with your AGs Office and the AG of any state that the company is operating out of. You can find the relevant Attorneys General’s offices here:

Click here for a full list of Current Attorneys General’s Offices.

WHY file complaints with the AGs:

One of my friends is an attorney that used to work for the Missouri Attorneys General’s office. Here’s what she told me:

She said that typically ONE state AG will will investigate a company first and then file suit against them if they feel it is justified. After that OTHER AGs will sometimes also file against the company. And AFTER the AGS file, the FTC takes notice and considers filing against the company.

3. You should file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Click here to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

WHY file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission

Again, this has to do with collecting extrinsic evidence that the FTC sometimes factors into their cases.

4. You should file a complaint with IC3.gov (The Internet Crime Complaint Center)

Click here to file a complaint with IC3.gov

WHY file complaints with IC3.gov

IC3.gov is useful for law enforcement to determine if certain potential cases are related, even if they appear to be from different sectors.

5. It may be helpful to contact your State’s Office Of Consumer Protection

Click here to find your State’s Office Of Consumer Protection

Why contact your State’s Office Of Consumer Protection

Some Consumer Protection Offices do facilitate dispute resolution. However, you should note that certain complaints may be within the jurisdiction of other local, state, or federal offices.

6. Contact Your District Attorney’s Office

More fake news sites to avoid!

I posted this on the main blog, but since the larger list of fake news sites is here in the not recommended section I thought it would make sense to post it here as well. I’ve tracked an incredible number of flogs (fake blogs) that are usually either a fake success story or a fake news story over the past few years. Unfortunately it seems as if they are here to stay. :-(

What is disturbing is that most of the marketers using these flogs appear to think that just by putting the word “Advertorial” on their page they can proceed to do anything they want, including some or all of the following:

  • Putting all kinds of made-up comments in a comments area of the flog.
  • Claiming that the fake story they put on their site was used on major media outlets like MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, CBS, etc.
  • Placing an advertising area INSIDE the advertorial (VERY confusing)
  • Using legitimate news video footage within their fake stories.

Needless to say, a lot of them just don’t even bother to use any sort of advertorial disclaimer.  One thing is for sure, though. You should almost always (if not ALWAYS) avoid anything these fake news sites promote.

The following video shows how widespread and bizarre the fake news phenomenon continues to be:
