You might see a company that offers a turnkey web business with "business and internet marketing coaching" included. Oh, and of course a 1-year guarantee is offered.
You think to yourself, "this sounds great. All I have to do is invest my money and the profits will roll in." And you also assume you don't have anything to lose because of the 1-year guarantee.
Plus, you'll have an internet marketing and business coach to help you in case you ever get stuck. How could you go wrong?
Soon after you buy your online turnkey business website, you receive a call from your "coach". She seems friendly enough. Very helpful in fact...and one big way she's going to help you is by showing you the various "traffic packages" you can buy in order to get visitors to your website.
Sure, the traffic packages might cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, but you figure you have nothing to lose since there's a "one year guarantee". So you hand over your money to your friendly "advisor" and wait for the traffic to roll in.
Sometimes you will see the traffic roll in and sometimes you won't. But even if the traffic does come, most likely you'll make a startling observation: "you aren't getting any sales".
You see not all traffic is created equally. You've just paid thousands of dollars for what experienced online marketers call "junk" traffic. This is usually traffic that is one of the following:
• Incentivized clicks (visitors)
These are people who are being paid to visit your website. And even though they don't get paid much (often less than a fraction of a penny for each time they click), they don't seemed to mind clicking for hours on end to make less than a dollar.
And guess what? If they're that desperate to earn less than a dollar, how likely do you think they are to buy anything from your website - especially since they don't even care what's on it?
•Robot Generated Hits
Even worse and extremely popular among guaranteed traffic sellers are fake website visitors generated by software programs, autosurf programs and the like.
•And the traffic just gets worse and worse . . .
If you think the traffic we discussed is bad, just imagine variations of that traffic coming from porn sites, free directories, gambling sites and worse (yes worse!). Hey, but the company upheld their end of the deal...they sent you "visitors"...
This would be great news if search engine submission packages weren't an even bigger scam than guaranteed traffic.
You see, real online business experts know that there's only a handful of search engines that matter - Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. At best the minor search engines bring in maybe 1% to 5% of overall web traffic - and it's not even very good traffic.
Not only that, most of the time you're better off NOT submitting your site to the search engines and letting them find your website on their own.
So you wait out the year, see little or no sales, and pick up the phone to demand your money back.
The good news is, the company that sold you the website might actually give you your money back for the website. The bad news is they're about to let you know that the guarantee doesn't apply to the thousands of dollars you spent on traffic.
One popular question I get is about "business insurance".
It seems people are concerned about losing all the money they're about to make in their great new business than they are in finding out if they're great new business is just another big, expensive, scam.
The truth is, the most important form of "business insurance" you can get for a web business is to get correct training in the first place.
There's one place I know of, Jeremy Palmer's QuitYourDayJob.com site which, for an extremely low one-time fee, gives you critically important training and unlimited access to his private discussion forum.
It's a forum where you can ask any questions you want at any time and get the answers you need to run a successful business online.
