How to block unwanted text messages?

Someone emailed the other night wanting to know how to block unwanted text messages.

I checked with one of my resources and here is what he said:

“IF THESE MESSAGES ARE MOBILE TO MOBILE, IT’S VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THEM… WHY? THE CIPHER SYSTEMS FOR SMS ARE A JOKE AND EASILY HACKED… ONLY WAY I KNOW TO STOP THEM IS CHANGE THE PHONE NUMBER AND/OR SET UP A SECURE PASSWORD (USING LETTERS AND NUMBERS AND CHANGE IT LIKE EVERY 3 MONTHS) CHANGING THE NUMBER IS THE SIMPLEST SOLUTION… A HUGE PROBLEM IS WITH THE BLUETOOTH DEVICES AND IT’S GOING TO BE A GROWING PROBLEM… COMPLAINTS TO THE SYSTEM PROVIDER AND OR FCC PROBABLY WON’T DO ANYTHING… AND IT’S A SERIOUS PROBLEM… YOU GET A MESSAGE TO CALL ANOTHER NUMBER… YOU CALL THE NUMBER AND IT REDIRECTS YOU ANOTHER NUMBER ASKING YOU FOR CONFIDENTIAL INFO ABOUT YOU, YOUR BANK ACCT. NUMBERS ALLEGEDLY TO VERIFY THIS OR THAT PIECE OF INFO…. “IF” SOMEONE COULD COME UP WITH A DEVICE, SOFTWARE OR OTHERWISE TO PROTECT USERS, SOMEONE COULD MAKE A FORTUNE…

“IF” USING A BLUETOOTH DEVICE, YOU CAN MANUALLY SET IT TO “NON-DISCOVERABLE ” MODE…

BUT, IT’S LIKE SKYPE IN A WAY… I SET MY SETTINGS TO BLOCK ANY AND EVERYBODY EXCEPT MY FRIENDS/CONTACTS.

HERE’S A NEW ONE FOR YOU “BLUESNARFING”!!! OR HOW ABOUT “MALEVOLENT BREACH ATTEMPTS” = HACKING… WHERE THE HELL THEY COME UP WITH THESE DESCRIPTIONS HAS ALWAYS FASCINATED ME…

The truth of the matter is that Bluesnarfing requires some special software, as well as a consensual “pairing.” There’s little info on whether Bluesnarfing is possible without the targeted phone being paired with the computer running the aforementioned software application, but we shouldn’t completely rule out this possibility, either.

SHELL SHOCK FROM WW1 IS NOW “POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER”… IT’S SHELL SHOCK FOR CHRISTS SAKE… CHANGING THE NAME DOESNT CHANGE THE CONDITION… VAGABOND/BUM/STREET PEDDLER = FINANCIALLY IMPAIRED…. OR CHALLENGED!!”

Q: Hello,

I do not see this company on your website.  I am skeptical because they want my bank account info and it sounds almost like a money laundering scheme.  Could you please let me know your thoughts? This is their website: http://www.capitalsrv.com/index.html

Here is the email I received:

“Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest to our current openings.
Hereby we confirm that your expertise and qualification meet our requirements for Regional Manager Position.

Position Type: Permanent (work from home).
Operating hours: between 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM weekdays. Variable overtime is also required. NO evening/weekend work allowed.
Occupation Type: Part-time (1-5 hours a day occupation).
Salary: Your basic salary will equal $2500/mo + a bonus per processed transaction (for managers with corporate/business account type: 5.5% commission per processed transaction + $4000/mo).
Payment: You’ll get your payment as a wire transfer approximately once a week.

Job Requirements:
We do not require any investments from our applicants. The job nature is a payment processing between our customers (sellers and buyers).
