ork from home companies and where to find them is a very popular request I get.

This webpage lists sources of companies offering work at home and free telecommuting job leads. It includes sources for jobs related to telecommuting research and lists legitimate websites that post free home job leads.

Before you dig into my list of the top work at home websites that offer free home job leads, I HIGHLY suggest bookmarkting this page in favorites section.

Warning about work from home companies

While these sites generally do a good job screening out scams in their free information, you should still use the following precautions:

Never pay to apply for a job or to show "you're serious".
Note: this is different than paying for a legitimate jobs database, which is OK.

There's a major difference between paying for a job (Not OK) and paying to access a database of job listings (OK).

Be cautious about calling unfamiliar area codes
Some international pay-per-call area codes look like legitimate U.S. area codes and employment scammers will use that to get you to call a number that you unwittingly get charged for.

Before you return a phone call from an employer with an unfamiliar area code, you might check it against this list of Carribbean area codes...

... Calling phone numbers with the following area codes might be linked to pay-per-call services with large up-front fees:

264 Anguilla
268 Antigua & Barbuda
242 Bahamas
246 Barbados
441 Bermuda (Atlantic)
284 British Virgin Islands
345 Cayman Islands
767 Dominica
809 Dominican Republic
473 Grenada & Carriacou
876 Jamaica
664 Montserrat
787 Puerto Rico
869 St. Kitts & Nevis
758 St. Lucia
784 St. Vincent & the Grenadines
868 Trinidad & Tobago
649 Turks & Caicos Islands
340 U.S. Virgin Islands

You can check what geographic area an area code belongs to at Fonefinder. You can also check your telephone directory or call the operator to determine if the area code is for a domestic or international location before calling.

Never allow a company to deposit a check into your account to "test or process the check".
In this scheme, generally the scammer will tell you to deposit the check, keep a portion for your services, and then wire the rest back.

You'll soon discover they sent you a fake check, the check will bounce, and you'll be stuck responsible for the full amount, including the money you sent back to the scammer.

Don't give a company your checking account information or social security number until you're comfortable with them.

A major source of fraud today is called "demand draft" fraud.

Here's how it works:

Once you provide the account information, a criminal creates a "demand draft" (i.e. a remotely created check that doesn't require a signature) and withdraw funds from your account -- often without your permission.

They get away with it because demand drafts generally only require the customers typewritten checking account number, a notation that the customer authorized the draft and/or a statement such as the statement "No signature required," "Authorization on file," "Signature on file," or words similar to that effect.

Use extreme caution if you click on advertising at even the most legitimate sites.
Many of these sites don't have control over many of the ads that display on their sites. Even when the site seems legitimate, it doesn't mean the ads lead to legitimate products and services, too.

Men are welcome
Many work at home sites are set up by women and are geared towards women seeking to work from home. But, men are welcome at these sites as well. I mention this in case you want to participate in any of the forum discussions or ask questions at the forums.

Here are the websites with free lists of companies hiring home workers or that post telecommuting job leads for free . . .

OK. I hope I didn't scare you off from using the free resources, because there really are some good sources of legitimate telecommuting information you can find for free.

Bookmark this page!...finally, I'd recommend you bookmark this page because as I find more legitimate free resources I will put them here. Now, on to the list...

List 1:

Companies hiring at home workers on a regular basis

Work At Home Success free list of companies that hire telecommuters . . .

WorkAtHomeSuccess is one of the longest running work-at-home resources on the net (Since 1998) and has been mentioned as a resource in major publications such as PC Magazine and Information Week.

The owner of this site, Leslie Truex has an excellent free telecommuting newsletter called where you can get The Jobs Online Toolkit which includes a 40-page report with information and job sources, an audio teleseminar by Leslie and several bonuses including a list of companies that are frequently hiring!

Truex is one of the wisest and most established work at home experts on the Internet, I was curious to see which fee-based home jobs databases she recommends... these were her top three:

MommysPlace-thumb

MommysPlace.net's free list of 31 companies that hire telecommuters on a regular basis . . .

MommysPlace.net's site owner Nel Taliercio, also recommends the following two jobs databases: HomeJobStop and Telework Recruiting. Nel is a resident advisor at WAHM Talk Radio.

Click here to visit MommysPlace's free list of 31 companies hiring at home workers

WhyDoWork-thumb

WhyDoWork's extensive free list of companies hiring at home workers . . .

This site has a very extensive free list of legitimate work from home companies. However, I almost hesitate to list this site, because they are very good at disguising advertising to make it look like part of the site.

For example, their "Featured Opportunity" is actually an ad. And the "Featured Opportunity" they had listed the day I did the research led to a page with some very questionable "Home Based Businesses".

List 2:

Websites listing genuine work from home job opportunities FREE

The following websites offer to match a legtimate work from home job online and post the listing for your review -- FREE:

Workaholics4Hire - a premier site for free home jobs leads

Workaholics4Hire employs researchers... scouring the Internet daily to filter through over 300 active job boards. Their mission is to locate only the home-based positions which do not involve any kind of fee.

Interesting note:The owner of this site likes to tout that they offer this service for free and that it's the same as many of the similar paid services. But I noticed in her book, INYourPJs, the first place she lists in her resource section is HomeJobStop, which is a paid database recommended by many other work at home experts!

IveTriedThat's FREE regular postings of work from home jobs

I don't think it's any secret by now that this is one of my favorite sites. I can send people there in a blink of an eye and know these guys will treat you right.

Be sure to visit and join their forum.

Telecommutingmoms-forum

Telecommuting Moms free work from home job listings

Work from home job listings are posted almost every day at the Telecommuting Mom's friendly message board here

Main WAHM (Work At Home Moms) website's free postings of work at home job positions

WAHM offers a FREE list of work at home jobs here. While it's updated, the schedule is somewhat erratic. And it appears most of the jobs were pulled from CraigsList.

I would also highly recommend that you start participating in their "Telecommuting Mom's" discussion forum.

GenuineJobs FREE list of genuine work from home jobs

The owner of this site also runs another site called ilovemlm.com (personally, I'm not a big fan of MLM), but the GenuineJobs.com site is all about genuine free paid online jobs.

Much like WAHM.com, GenuineJobs appears to copy many of the job listings from CraigsList.

List 3:

Legitimate, member's-only Home Jobs Databases

Most work from home/telecommuting experts recommend you use at least one paid jobs database in addition to the free resources... so here's my up-to-date list of legitimate fee-based jobs databases (most others are merely scams in disguise).

The following are the top legitimate fee-based job databases recommended by many of the work from home/telecommuting experts:

HomeJobStop

HomeJobStop Job's Database

HomeJobStop is a very affordable home job's database widely recommended by work at home experts.

WorkAtHomeSourceBook

The Work At Home SourceBook

Lynie Arden's "Work At Home SourceBook" has been published since 1986 and is updated on a regular basis. Lynie Arden is a true expert when it comes to work-at-home issues. She has been interviewed by over 100 media sources including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today.

This is actually a book and not a home jobs database. So it does not provide real-time job leads. But it is an excellent source and usually available to browse free at your local library or browse at your local bookstore. If your library doesn't have it, you can ask them if they can get it through interlibrary loan.

Warning! Apparently, some "data entry" program copied Lynie Arden's book title and logo and claim to be the originator of the Work At Home SourceBook!

You might avoid any site that makes this claim. While technically you can't copyright a title, the fact that they're stealing her book's logo indicates they are deliberately lifting her work. In fact, I would recommend you avoid any of the "data entry" sites that claim you can make huge money just entering data into forms.
