Victim of scam goes to jail

Q: My daughter got caught up in a scam.  They sent her a money gram told her to cash it and keep 10%.  She was arrested for trying to do so and is now in jail.  Is there anything I can do to help her.

A: There’s a well-known case like this you can read about here:

You really need to get an attorney involved. If you’re low-income, you should be able to find a public defender. For example In Arizona the list would be here:

Arizona Public Defenders

Good luck.

  1. I’ve got taken but luckily my bank was able to see that the deposit was fraudulent. The company told me that I would get paid for being a staff accountant. I checked the paper work and it look very legit.
What do I do? I never been in trouble and have a clean record. Should I get the FBI involved and explain what happen and see if they can help me need to know.

  2. Hi Daniel,

On this one I would HIGHLY recommend you get help from the site EagleResearchAssociates.org.

  3. Daniel:

Just happened to drop by and caught your question. Here are the steps you need to do IMMEDIATELY:

Before you file any complaints, go to our Consumer Information link and you will see what information you will need to file a complaint either in person or via the Internet. Be sure to get a letter from your bank explaining the actions you took to correct this problem. Gather all this information before contacting anyone so you have everything they need to assist you. Then you need to file your complaints:

    1. File a Police report.
    2. Contact your local DA’s office and report this to them (you will want to talk with their ECU (Economic Crime Unit) to file your report.
    3. Contact your state Attorney General (you can go to our website, as we have a link directly to all 50 state AG’s complaint online form. Click on our Consumer Assistance link (on the left hand side of the Home Page), and you will see File A Complaint in red. Click on the box for the drop down menu, and insert your state and hit enter. This will take you directly to the online complaint form.
    4. After completing your online complaint form for your state, then go to our Internet Crime Complaint Center link on the same page and this will take you directly to the Federal Governments online complaint form.
    5. File a complaint with the BBB, link is also on our website in this same area.
    6. If you received this offer via mail, contact the Postmaster General link on our site; but I am sure you probably received this opportunity via E-mail.

If you still need help, do not hesitate to contact me using our Contact Us link on our site, and I will personally answer any of your questions.

    Hope this helped.
